It was Thanksgiving Day and Sumara had no plans whatsoever. Her mother was on an overseas trip for her company since the day before and Sumara was not happy about that at all. She was kind of looking forward to dinner with all of them together in their new home hoping it would bring them a bit closer after a rough spell. Now she was left with just her dad and she didn't really want to eat a big dinner with just him.  She was in her room putting on her running shoes and decided she was just going to run somewhere, maybe find a park. When she came into the living room, she found her dad sitting on the couch watching the big screen t.v that her parents bought last summer. She noticed in his hand something she never saw in the house before.'Is he drinking...alcohol?', she slowly thought the words as her mind tried to process what she saw.

"Hey dad. I'm going to go out for a while. You don't mind do you?” she said to him hoping he wouldn't be angry.

"Of course I don't mind. I never mind when either you or your mother are out or busy with something, which is all the time. You two can do whatever you guys like. Why do I matter anyway? Ever since you've been fucking up in school, all attention has been placed only on you. You are such a selfish little slut. Didn’t we always give you more than enough attention? Havent we always given you enough love? You're the reason your mother and I are having problems. You little..."

Sumara was in shock and horror at the words that her father was expressing towards her. He's been tough with her before, but never to the point where he called her actual names. She knew he must of meant some of it, but it was the alcohol that made it worse. Before he could let out his last demeaning name, she went over, smacked the bottle out of his hand, and smashed the rest on the table by throwing them on the floor. She then ran towards the door saying a few words before leaving.
"Dad don’t you ever drink or talk to me or even mom that way again”, she said with a shaky voice full of anger. She slammed the door behind her and realized that, that probably won’t be the last scene like that her father will make.

As she ran, she put all of her feelings into each step and eventually her anger subsidized. Now instead of anger, she was overcome with disappointment in herself and her father. She would not let tears come close to forming in her eyes. ‘Just shake it off Sumara. Crying and self-pity is only for the weak’, she thought as she tried to clear her mind and just focus on the path in front of her. She eventually came upon a park and after she saw two people walk away from a bench, she decided to take a small break and sit. Her father’s outburst made her feel more tired than she usually gets from her ritual runs, so she actually felt almost drained. ‘Ill just rest here for a few moments and then run somewhere else or even home’, she said as she felt her eyelids almost closing  against her will.
