bal guh rum

met up with brooke for a couple beers at korean bar 'bal guh rum', above il bun ji 'japanese' restaurant on bloor, near christie. since i've been in this area awhile bal guh rum feels like a neighbourhood bar, but as the only white dude in there every time i go i continue to stick out like a straight priest at a catholic convention.

brooke and i talking about our lives and where they're headed. and what to do about preventing them from heading in the wrong direction. and it seems like we're running fairly similar programs recently: 'friend affairs' (her words) and working alright jobs to 'gain valuable work experience' (my words, posted ironically) and both feeling like we should be out in the world. that there's more to see even if we are apprehensive that seeing it might make us illegitimate bachelors and freakish examples of post-hippy malaise.

...

bar review:

bal guh rum has a kind of pink/light blue colour scheme going on and they give you free korean munchies just for ordering a beer. it's a great location to be alright with your life in. that is, if you've got the mind to handle the extreme randomness of the surroundings, including the fact that everyone in there but you is busy living out some weird, 2nd generation korean immigrant story up at finch station.
