Today I walked into a nursery (you know, a plant store) because we were searching for a fun yard ornament for my dad for father's day. And I don't know why, but every time I walk into a garden store, I have a strong desire to purchase a tree. Admittedly, I also want to get all kinds of plants, seeds, etc. but there's something really cool about the idea of buying a tree. It's in a pot, you take it home, you plant it, and it's yours. During the course of my childhood, my dad bought several trees, a cherry tree, a dogwood, and 2 pine trees, and we planted them. Although I didn't appreciate it at the time, it was definitely cool to watch them grow, and it's certainly fun to go back and think: "Man, I planted that thing!" But of course those trees are now back in Oregon, so I have no idea how they're doing now. I hope no one has cut them down. But I think that, when and if I eventually have children, I'm going to buy some trees for them, so they can watch them grow.
