I'm pretty strictly a gen writer, and busy with 5+ works in progress in LoM at the moment, and Sam/Gene doesn't do a thing for me. Yet occasionally my brain will give birth to slash bunnies that are, at least, interesting to me on an intellectual level, even if they don't 'turn me on' (or at least the slash aspect of them doesn't). So, since that

No, the mods do that, and they're usually a few months behind with the archiving, so don't worry - your fics will eventually show up there. And I keep records of how many fics there were from each author as I read along, so I can compare, on my inevitable next trawl, and see if there are any new fics (or new authors) in the memories. Because I am - as you may have noticed from the fact that I try to read my way through the memories in the first place - a bit OCD about fannish things. *g* (Did I mention I have nearly every Farscape fanvid ever made on my harddrive? That's roughly 1.500 vids - 20 GB in disk space. Sorted into categories, by quality and theme. I probably shouldn't mention that - someone might call the men in the white coats.)
>....oh and you: glutton for punishment!
Reading LoM fic - a punishment? I'd like to see what a reward is in that frame of reference then! *g*
But really, of course I only read the ones I like. But to find out what I like I need to at least *look* at everything once. Since 80% of all fic in this fandom is slashy PWP ;-), the task of 'reading' everything that is interesting according to my parameters really isn't so daunting. Scanning fic is quickly done, and very little, really, remains to be read in its entirety. My interests and the fandom's aren't very compatible.
>(But if you likey the angsty, you will like the Undercover cycle, if you can live through the slash! heh.)
I think I actually may, yes, although I still have certain things that will turn me off a fic pretty thoroughly, and I haven't seen enough of your series yet to know if such aspects are present in it or not. We'll see. In principle it does sound more interesting to me than 99% of all other slash in this community, though.

Okay, thanks, just making sure I was not skipping something I was supposed to do! Thanks!
I thought I was OCD but mighod you WIN. You also win for patience, because you must have buckets. Oh and it IS punishment, because 'reward' is to be transported into the fandom fanfic of your choice. I think they call that heaven?
I do write some gen that I hope you get across, like the Hiden Talents series (really need to do another one, come to think of it...) and if you just can't read 'Undercover' due to the slashiness I am SO not insulted. Personally, I simply cannot and will not read het happy fluff Sam/Annie (Oh I adore Sam/Annie/Gene, sure, but...) and honestly I get bored with overdoses of slash PWP -- I like a story, I like characterization, etc. etc. Oh I'm so damn picky!
Okay I'll let you get back to your OCD madness reading. Thanks for the bunny, you brought up a few points I'm going to consider dwelling on a bit more in my work.

I rarely win at anything, so: yay! lol
>You also win for patience, because you must have buckets.
Well, I'm a goldsmith, an archaeologist (sort of), and I work in a library, so... yes. I am patient. Unfortunately I am also massively easy to distract. So, I really *need* that patience, because without it, I wouldn't *ever* get anything done. Everything I do takes me three times as long as it does for 'normal' people. Too many interests, too little time. I kind of cycle through everything I want and/or need to do, which has two consequences: 1.) phases of low activity inevitably follow phases of high activity, be it in LoM fic reading, FS vid collecting or any of a number of more 'serious' areas of my life, and 2.) during phases of low activity, Stuff Piles Up (eventually necessitating a phase of high activity again, of course).
Though... I need patience even in those areas of my life which I do not put on this 'attention/neglect' rotation - writing being the main one. Finishing a fic takes me years. (Another reason to offer some of my bunnies for adoption.)
>Oh and it IS punishment, because 'reward' is to be transported into the fandom fanfic of your choice. I think they call that heaven?
Oh no. No, thanks. Not with the kind of fic I read and write. I'm into existential angst, I keep killing off the characters I love, I've written about one nuclear war so far. None of this I really ever want to see in RL. *g*
>I do write some gen that I hope you get across, like the Hiden Talents series (really need to do another one, come to think of it...) and if you just can't read 'Undercover' due to the slashiness I am SO not insulted.
Well, slashiness per se isn't a problem. There's just different ways of handling the slash, some of which work for me, and others which don't.
>Personally, I simply cannot and will not read het happy fluff Sam/Annie
I won't read *fluff*, full stop. It bores me. Just like PWP bores me.
>I like a story, I like characterization, etc. etc.
And above average writing, a good, perhaps even *original* idea, possibly a nice structure... and the right amount and kind of angst... *g*
>Oh I'm so damn picky!
Yes, me too. This significantly reduces the available range of fic that meets my criteria of 'interesting'.

So after reading this, I am minded to ask you a hugh favor. If you come across anything that you think is really cool, could you let me know so I can read it too? I like slash in general, but I am finding that this is one of those fandoms where I have to be SOLD on the slash before I will buy it. (does that make any sense?) So I suspect that those fics that you like will be the type to interest me as well.
In any case, good luck with your endeavor.

It'll probably be jumping_off or my website or my personal journal. Probably my journal first, and then my website later, plus an announcement in jumping_off. You could try subscribing to the 'recs' tag in my journal to be notified when I get around to the recs post? I do occasionally rec other stuff (fic and vids from all kinds of fandoms, and webcomics), but not often enough to really swamp your inbox, I don't think. *g*
(I'm at B now! Wheeee! *g*)

All non-slash.
As for slash, I particularly liked these two:
amy_wolf: Five First Times (see link above)
ailcia: For Want of Warmth: http://community.livejournal.com/lifein1973/333568.html
These are just my favourites, though. There was other worthy and enjoyable stuff there, too.
