In the morning, Sam found Gene on the couch, but looked away with a cough and hidden blush when he noticed Gene’s pants were missing.
“What did you do?” Sam asked.
“Seemed like a good idea at the time...”
A scream came from RCS.
“... Marking my territory.”

Sam hiccupped “I love you, man...”

Suddenly Gene thumped him on the back and he moaned in response.
“Nice one, Tyler. But tell me, what persuaded you to challenge Litton’s new DI to a drinking contest?”
Sam groaned. “I don’t know, Guv. It seemed a good idea at the time.”

“First pint goes to Tyler,” Gene announced, grabbing a glass and filling it generously.
Sam choked on the first mouthful, gagging on the metallic aftertaste.
“Didn’t think the chosen vintage of CID would be quite so… fullbodied,” he gasped. He’d had worse, in his time, but this was pretty horrible.
“It gets better once you’re into the second tin,” Gene assured him, and tossed back his own.
