Late like woah, and I'm so sorry for that-technically it was done in time for the 30th deadline, but it wasn't really, there were all sorts of problems with the end that were resolved when I wrote a half a page more during Chem. Hm. I should have known meeting one deadline was pushing it, meeting two just wasn't going to happen. Hope you all

I always sort of felt that, after being given The Date, Sam might actually use that as an excuse for leaving on that day, which is a bit ironic, considering leaving is what drove Gene to doing something so awful in the first place...
I don't honestly blame Gene for what happened-he was lonely, and desperate, and maybe just the slightest bit insane after so many years without Sam (I think those seven years Sam WAS there, was just enough for Gene to start expecting Sam to ALWAYS be there, and so when Sam disappears, Gene is thrown into a state of shock and doesn't know how to react). I think some people can be driven to a desperation that's almost dangerous under the right circumstances, and at least he still had the presence of mind to wait until Sam was of age.
I'm glad you approve of the final lines. They went through a bit of work, so it's always good to know that I apparently hit on the proper sequence in the end.
I'm so glad you liked it!
