A positive thought

Things have been kind of shitty lately, and I haven't even mentioned the worst of it, but a good thing has happened.  In August, we had 10 rabbits.  We are considered full at 6 but have 8 cages.  In August, all 8 were full; one had a bonded pair, and there was a bunny in foster.  That was bad enough.  Then someone brought in 8 baby bunnies.  I was afraid that we were going to have some of these animals euthanized.  That happened soon after I first became trained in rabbits, and I still think of one of those bunnies who died, his bright blue eyes and sweet personality.  He would have been an amazing pet.  It's different than with dogs and cats.  Rabbit adoptions are rarer, and you get to know their personalities more.  I would have been crushed to think any of these animals I've cared for for months had been put to sleep.

Instead of euthanasia, the city approved of a promotion that brought in a lot of adopters.  Since then, we've adopted 14 bunnies out.  And it all started with someone coming in and saving that she wanted our oldest rabbit who had been here the longest :')

We did lose one rabbit.  He died while being neutered, which isn't exactly surprising.  He was an older bunny who hadn't really adjusted to shelter life, and rabbits are very fragile anyway.  So I'm not shocked, although he was very sweet so it's sad.  But at least he had a few weeks with us where he was loved and spoiled.  That makes me feel good -- to know that he was cared for.

But yeah, 14 rabbits with homes now :)
