This was gonna be a rant about Vanessa Carlton but distractions! In the form of a meme stolen from
rainbowstevie Back in the Day: Five Shows you Loved as a Kid (kid being 0-12 years of age)
1. Melrose Place: I started watching this show when I was 8? years of age. Maybe 9. But it made such an impression, and it was probably the first thing I truly obsessed over. Hell, I still do. Sometimes - okay, whenever - I watch the show, I think, "well, that explains so much about who I've become." Which is probably a bad thing, but oh well. Amanda Woodward will forever hold a special place in my cold, cold heart. :-p
2. Ghostwriter: I actually watched an episode of this the other day, and I know I would still watch this show if PBS hadn't canceled it. Assholes. That said... I don't miss Lenny rapping.
3. Scooby Doo: There were a few occasions where I would stay home from school "sick" just so I could watch this show. And there were times that my mother would come home from work and drag my ass to school. But by the time she'd driven home, Scooby would be over, and I didn't have a problem going to school, LOL.
4. She-Ra: I don't really remember much about this show. Except that I wanted Swiftwind. I can haz, plz?
5. Beverly Hills, 90210: Not as good as Melrose Place, too innocent, you know. But it was still really good. Donna Martin graduates!
Who would you do? Five TV Characters you Would... Well, it's self-explanatory
1. CJ Cregg (from The West Wing) -- Allison Janney is walking sex, period, but as CJ? She's way hot.
2. Russell Tupper (from Huff) -- I really can't explain my love for Oliver Platt. Or Russell, who is a drug-addicted lawyer/whore.
3. Rick Stetler (from CSI: Miami) -- Am I the only person who LIKES the way Stetler dresses? *silence* Okay, fine.
4. Irina Derevko (from Alias) -- Caveat: Spy Daddy may not kill me.... On second thought, don't let Spy Mommy kill me either.
5. Horatio Caine (from CSI: Miami) -- UGH. I don't even want to. Just the thought of all that pale flesh makes me want to barf, but... apparently Caruso and I have like a 98% physical compatibility (according to celebmatch). So I'm curious. And also, I spend a lot of time with this particular character. In my desire to know everything...
What? No. No, I don't watch that... Five Guilty Pleasures
1. America's Next Top Model -- I will readily admit that I watch this show. I've even caught myself ranting in a Tyra-esque manner about dead eyes. But I should probably be ashamed, right?
2. The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency -- Confession time: when I watch Janice doing anything, part of me is absolutely sure I'm taking a glance at my future.
3. The Tyra Banks Show -- Only sometimes, but yeah, I've seen it... why does this list almost solely consist of shows Tyra has had a hand in?????
4. America's Most Smartest Model -- This really only helps me get through my mid-week slump of being Top Model-less. I think there are some serious flaws with the show. Mary Alice isn't all that preachy; she is decently articulate, and the models are decent looking. It takes away a lot of the brilliance that is ANTM, but it's decent to watch. I knew the seeds of love had been sown when one of the models said that Darfur was probably a cologne.
5. TIE -- Dr. Phil and Nancy Grace -- now... I would NEVER, of my own volition, watch either of these shows. I do have SOME standards (though this list must call that into question). But every now and then... I find the TV on that channel and can't find it within myself to turn it off.
Wow. Five TV Moments you Still Remember (and Probably won't Forget)
1. the very first advertisement that I saw for the Fleetwood Mac MTV special, The Dance: I wasn't all that much of a fan back then. But I remember seeing that commercial - a woman's voice coming on the screen saying, "I can still hear you saying you would never break the chain," cut quickly with images of the band - and knowing that things for me had changed forever.
2. Kimberly blowing up the Melrose Place apartment building: HELL YES.
3. Dead-gar Bergen and Mortuary Snerd sketch on Roseanne -- absolutely brilliant.
4. "The streets are too crowded with angels" West Wing speech -- It never ceases to make me cry, as do many of the West Wing's speeches. This particular moment, however, epitomizes everything a politician SHOULD be and everything a TV show can be. Just lovely.
5. Jeremy's hunting experience on "Sports Night" -- "You can't tell me that the little one didn't know who his mother was... That's gotta mean something!" I didn't truly like this show until that moment. It's not over done, and Joshua Malina plays it brilliantly. <3
"Tossed Salad and Scrambled Eggs": Five TV Theme Songs you know (and love) by Heart
1. The Golden Girls theme song -- :-P
2. "Won't get Fooled Again" (CSI: Miami): Okay, this is perhaps a little unfair since I like The Who, and the reasons for my choosing this have absolutely nothing to do with the crappy-ass show its featured on. But oh well.
3. "One of Us" (Joan of Arcadia): It just fits really nicely. And I like it a lot. Which brings me to a small rant: WHY DO THEY AUTOMATICALLY EXCLUDE THE THEME SONG THROUGHOUT MOST THE DVDS?! *hisses*
4. The Roseanne theme song -- I love it just as an instrumental, but I do know the Blues Traveler's lyrics to it by heart.
5. Um... I don't know. I'll have to think about this.
Eh. Five Shows you just can't get Into
1. CSI: New York -- it just doesn't seem interesting to me at all.
2. Heroes -- I watched maybe two episodes? And I just can't handle all the "OMG powers" crap that comes with every episode.
3. Gossip Girl -- I want to like it. I really do. But I have no idea what's going on, and it's boring.
4. Lost -- After "Alias," I REFUSE to support JJ Abrams in anything he does. He gets bored and abandons his shows.
5. 24 -- I just don't give a shit, lol.
The Starting Line Up: Five Channels you go to First when you sit Down to Watch TV
1. Bravo
2. Food Network
3. A&E
4. History Channel
5. TNT
This is an Environment of Welcoming, and you Should just get the hell out of here -- Five Characters you Could do Without
1. Jordan McDeere (Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip) -- I HATE YOU.
2. Natalia Boa Vista (CSI: Miami) -- please. go. die. NOW.
3. Luka (ER) -- A poor replacement for George Clooney, in my mind. Also the actor seems really gross.
4. The entire cast of Grey's Anatomy -- I could do without that show and everyone on it.
5. James Wilson (House) -- he's sooo damn preachy, and I only really like him when he's fun. Olly says that I hate him because I don't like it when someone tells House no. I... won't disagree.
The Collective Experience: Five Times TV Brought you Closer to Someone Else
Hmm.... I don't know that I have five times, but... I will say that a bunch of people on my friend's list are there, because of a mutual affection for various TV shows. I'm too lazy to list them all. :-P
That's what she said. Five Quotes that still Resonate
1. "Liberals ended slavery in this country... Liberals got women the right to vote. Liberals got African Americans the right to vote. Liberals created social security and lifted millions of elderly people out of poverty. Liberals ended segregation. Liberals passed the Civil Rights Act, the Voting Rights Act. Liberals created Medicare. Liberals passed the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act. What did conservatives do? They opposed every one of those programs. Every one. So when you try to hurl that word,'liberal,' at my feet as if it were something dirty, something to run away from, something that I should be ashamed of, it won't work, Senator. Because I will pick up that label, and I will wear it as a badge of honor." -- from The West Wing
2. "More than any time in recent history, America's destiny is not of our own choosing. We did not seek, nor did we provoke, an assault on our freedoms and our way of life. We did not expect, nor did we invite, a confrontation with evil. Yet the true measure of a people's strength is how they rise to master that moment when it does arrive. 44 people were killed a couple of hours ago at Kennison State University. Three swimmers from the men's team were killed, and two others are in critical condition. When, after having heard the explosion from their practice facility, they ran into the fire to help get people out. Ran into the fire. The streets of heaven are too crowded with angels tonight. They're our students and our teachers and our parents and our friends. The streets of heaven are too crowded with angels, but every time we think we've measured our capacity to meet a challenge, we look up and we're reminded that that capacity may well be limitless. This is a time for American heroes. We will do what is hard. We will achieve what is great. This is a time for American heroes, and we reach for the stars." -- from The West Wing
3. "I want us to talk, because I like the sound of your voice." -- also from The West Wing
4. "Evil - that's not a word to use lightly. it's only the darkest end of a broad spectrum, exactly like light. Nobody is born in total darkness. Most of you live on the grey end of the spectrum. A lie here and there - jealousy, wrath. But you only get to absolute evil by doing one thing after another, til eventually, you're transformed. Almost everybody has some light somewhere, and light is always worth fighting for." -- from Joan of Arcadia
5. “You know, Keith, no offense, but I find your statements so irritating and pompous that it’s hard to put into words, and I am just too tired and too bored to try.” -- from Melrose Place
Gimme More: Five Shows you can Never get Enough of
1. The West Wing - I miss it more than words can say.
2. Passions - I love that damn little soap opera. Why did it have to switch to Direct TV? :-(
3. Roseanne - Where did the repeats go?????
4. Huff - Even though this show does have a tendency to make me depressed, I love it. And I wish Showtime hadn't canceled it.
5. Melrose Place - Bring it back! The world needs more depictions of desk sex, damn it!
