"I was talking to zippyknowsbest mun and she mentioned that writing is hard and you know what? It is. But it's also a rewarding self-challenge we all put ourselves up against with prompt writing and so on. We have fangirling communities and places like You Rock and Fic Rec Friday where other people can tell you what they enjoy from your arsenal of writing...

But here's the thing, they only see the end product, not all the possibly hairpulling it took to get a certain piece just so. They may not know the fandom or the character the way you do. Maybe they don't know that you were on fire when you wrote something and it came out on the page exactly as you had imagined it."

Instead of pointing out someone else's fantastic work, list three of your own favorites. Maybe it's an entire prompt. Maybe just a few lines that nailed a character's voice. Is it a set up for an RP thread? A journal entry a muse had to write? A stylistic experiment that succeeded?

Soft, Lovely, Gentle, Kind

I was going through a really hard day on little sleep and I needed some self-therapy. Writing usually helps with what I'm going through. I had thought Munch would be the best choice for helping me, but Murphy stepped up with this idea of simply needing comfort and being unable to get it so she faces it on her own. This piece was easy to write, one where I just heard the first line and kept going. I got that flash of inspiration, the story flowed and it helped me feel better afterwards. This isn't bad ass Murphy, this is tortured Murphy, this is just lonely Murphy. Even Harry, who is a very lonely guy, has Bob waiting for him at home. Murphy's got no one most of the time and that idea weighs on her, especially when she's seen something terrible. Sometimes, she just wants to get rid of that loneliness and that's harder than it seems. It's still one of my absolutely favorite Murphy pieces.

Oh God, what have I done?

Okay, so not technically just my writing but I really love this RP. House/Murphy is one of the most unexpected relationships Murphy has developed in RP and I have trouble really explaining it to people. There have been many times when I look at Murphy and wonder just what the hell is she thinking when she's dealing with House. It doesn't make sense to me because he should drive her crazy and she should hate him, but she doesn't. While this thread was going on, I could really see why Murphy has put herself out there for House time and time again. This thread, while some very good angsty RPing for Murphy, helped me understand the character better and a situation I didn't understand before. That's why it's one of my favorites.

Ghostly Conversation

One of my newer pieces that I just really love because of Bob and Murphy. The two of them interacting is an idea that has always fascinated me. Murphy is a cop, no magic, no weirdness. Bob's a cursed ghost. These two have nothing in common except Harry and how would that common ground bring two vastly different individuals together? Would Bob resent Murphy or vise versa? So any chance I can to write these two talking together or interacting, I'm a happy writer. What I love about this piece is Bob. As much as I love writing Murphy, this piece isn't really about her, but how Bob accepts her and in turn she accepts him. That's why I really love this piece, these two important figures in Harry's life have come together.
