Denizens

Be thankful your journey has outposts
You're not just some illiterate sailor
On the open sea
You have music that talks to you, nature whispering
And talismans, edifices. Torches in the night.

Don't pretend you're alone here
A toolmaker in a town of monkeys
'No one understands sacred rituals anymore'
Out in the yard at midnight with a Hamm Radio.

If we were all Denizens of Zen
We'd be pacifists, but in denial
I prefer the Italian way
Drunk on wine and exploring the syllables of
Your name.
