Our big 3 fish were eaten out of our pond. At first I thought the dog did it becasse I found one fish, mostly intact in her "Chew" spot. WTF?!
But the fact that the dog was dry and clean and there were a lot of fish scales in the pond... suggested raccoon.
Which was all but confirmed 2 nights later when we discovered a 3 legged raccoon in our front yard. Yeah it was missing it's front right leg.
I don't feel as bad knowing it was a raccoon. It has happened before it will happen again. It is what they do. Eventually we will make a bigger pond, wider, deeper with fish hiddy holes to thwart the raccoons. Until then we just won't buy any expensive fish.
I am not happy about it, but I am not going to put up netting or fences or other ugly ploys to keep them out of a pond whose sole function is to be pretty to look at.
