Lootz!
Good news - The dryer seems to be working properly (I am going to do a tone of laundry this weekend!)
Poe's parents cam over last night and showed us stuff form their trip to China and Korea.
Very cool. We got so "Phat Lootz" gifts as well.
I got a silk jacket dark blue with the imperial dragons on it.
Poe got a purple silk robe with the empresses phoenix (this was a challenge for Poe's mom. Traditionally the Phoenix is ALWAYS on red.)
We got some miniature replicas of the terra cotta solders found in china. They got them from street venders, not the "Official" museum replicas made with "Authentic" mud. *shrug* The way I see it is they are made with mud from china, by Chinese right? That is authentic enough for me *wink*
We also go a small bag of old Chinese coins. This lead to the joke that it is "Authentic World Of Warcraft Gold - straight from China!" heh.
After that we all went out to dinner.
Poe and I then went to a Dark Horizon's Out of Game Action (OOGA)
Apparently the LS has not been doing as promised and the "Evil Tree" continued to grow. Luring other vampires to it, dragging them underground and feeding off of their blood. We found 15 torpored vampires underneath it. (Now most of this was because Ben missed a lot of games, or shows up late so he never got around to appeasing the tree.)
The tree had powers to defend itself, it could temporarily possess a vampire and make them attach whomever was damaging the tree. It also could telekinetically throw rocks. But we gathered all the rocks in the area and moved them out of the trees range of influence. I elected to do all the digging, with my hands - In case the tree could move the tools, or control me into hurting myself with them. But as the session progressed EVERYONE had to defend against being taken over and attacking me. As it worked out everyone got to attack me at least once. It was kind of fun actually. Fortunately my character was built specifically to take damage so I was perfect for this role. Also it was a really good way to learn of peoples strengths and capabilities.
This also amused me. The LS has declared a Crusade against me for heresy and is calling upon all kindred to remove me form this world. They will be pissed to learn that I was with a group of people who kept attacking me and they DIDN"T turn me over to them. Heh. I plan on making things difficult for the LS *wink*
I am starting to understand how Boot CD's work a bit better now. I made up some win 98 start up floppies and used those to create some boot CD's. I did a few styles and configurations. Hopefully one of them will let me startup Poe's laptop and access the restore disks.
Donald gave me a tip that might let us salvage data off the old drive. It is a long shot, but sense the drive has the "Click of Death" there isn't too much we can do to make it worse at this point.
Apparently one of the common causes is for the main bearing to go out. If we put it in the freezer for 20 min we might be able to get the drive to work long enough to copy the old data over to the new drive.
It is worth a try. I need to get a copy of ghost 2003, that should allow me to leave the old drive in the USB enclosure.
