It was far too cold for this time of year and Rasia wasn’t sure she liked it. Death was part of life. She knew that better than most, being a necromancer. She even loved autumn. Most people preferred the spring but she loved fall. The cool crisp nights, the sudden appearance of fall flowers busting desperately forth with golds and purpose, the leaves hanging like jewels, the reminder that the world, like its people, needed to sleep, she loved it all.

But it was too cold tonight, she thought miserably as rain poured down and lightning forked through the sky. This was not a time to be out doing reconn work but there was nothing to be done for that. All too soon, the rain would turn to ice and snow. Somehow she almost wanted winter to come. Yes, she had rethought her reservations about the chill.

Going to war in the dead of winter made no sense. Maybe it would stop the queen’s plans until what really happened to Prince Naresh was sort out. Then again, the queen had stopped making sense some time ago. Rasia put her hopes in learning something in consequence on this mission. She didn’t trust the queen’s hand would be stayed for long.
