Ok. I'm in a strange house, I think, or a stranger library, in a city I don't know, and Mom's left me. She knows she shouldn't wander around by herself! Especially in a strange city! Maybe Daddy's with her. He'd better be.
When Daddy said we lived in the sticks, I didn't think the city would be like this... There are weird, fast, shiny things roaring by outside, and there's cold air shooting out of a slot in the wall. The door is locked, though, and I don't have a key, so I'm not going out. ... Though I could probably climb the balcony. But that would make Mom worry. And there are lots of books here! Even a few I haven't read before!
