back in san diego

got back from ALA/RBMS at around midnight monday night. the conference was wonderful. i got a lot of schmoozing in at RBMS, and a lot of freebies at ALA (i'll post a list sooner or later, so that you peoples can borrow/take anything that sounds appealing). I think i socialized more in the 4 days i was at RBMS than I have in the past 4 months. it's exhausting.

i'm too tired right now to post a proper update, but it was a generally good experience.

now, i'm working on a huge last-minute project for the UC system, exploring the possibility of using Worldcat Local as a replacement for the current MELVYL software, so i have to go through and document every MARC field that we edit locally in our records, to see whether it's possible to use the master records in OCLC as our system-wide catalog. Ugh.

i got called to come in for an interview at the Autry, but they told me yesterday that it was for a part-time position (even though the job description was listed under full-time positions), so that fell through. i would be much more upset if i hadn't seen a posting for a position at LMU that sounded even better, and that i'm actually qualified for (http://joblist.ala.org/modules/jobseeker/controller.cfm?scr=jobdetail&jobid=6875). i'm not sure how i feel about going back into a catholic institution, but as far as christians go, the jesuits are among the less objectionable. that whole promoting learning and questioning thing goes a long way toward preventing bigotry and zealots. that, and the pay is good and it's in a nice neighborhood. the campus is fairly pretty too. so, once more into the breach dear friends...

tonight, i need to make dinner so that i have leftovers to bring for lunch tomorrow, get to work on my LoJ masquerade gown (eep! only 2.5 weeks to go and i've barely started!), and wash some of the pile of dishes that is threatening to take over my kitchen.

oh yeah, and i bought an orchid yesterday at trader joe's. it makes me happy. it's a dark purply-burgundy color, with lacy white bits around the edges. yay plants.

rbms, ala, lmu, job hunting
