Good and bad

The Bad:
Apparently, I have a rat living in my ceiling. Landlords and I have known that there was one in the attic since the pest inspector came through for his annual routine inspection about two weeks ago. This morning, I was actually woken up by the sound of scratching in the ceiling. Traced it to the partition between the kitchen and living room. Found no rat, but did find droppings in one of my less-acessible cabinets. Eew. Thankfully, the only thing in said cabinet is empty glass jars (which get sterilized before use anyway) and jars of preserves, which have an airtight seal. Have emailed my very nice (but not particularly pro-active) landlords to say, *ahem* could you get on this NOW?

Still battling with overwhelming fatigue. This has been a problem for years, but I've always just chalked it up to stress. The past few months though, it's gotten to a point where I can barely summon up the energy to wake up in the mornings, and I'm dragging all through the day, and when I get home from work, I just want to curl up and go to sleep, except that I'm achey all over and can't get very comfortable. I feel like I'm barely functional, and to top it all off, my stomach has been getting very sensitive lately. I got tested for low thyroid function at my last doctor's appointment, as per cloudmistress's suggestion, but the tests came up negative. Am now looking at vitamin deficiencies, heavy metal poisoning, food allergies, etc. as other possible culprits. I still have pretty much all of the symptoms for hypothyroidism though, so I haven't entirely ruled that one out.

Still no prospect of jobs in Portland. Not that I really expected there to be, but still. Blah.

The Good:
Somehow, despite all the above, I am still sewing. Very slowly, of course, but so it goes. I'm off for a fitting for my aunt's corset this morning, and I went fabric shopping downtown for Ryan's vest yesterday. For myself, I have a silly waist cincher that I made from an old pair of jeans, and that I'm stiffening with cable ties instead of steel bones. Heh, I could go through airport security in this corset. For some reason, this amuses me greatly. I'm also working on beefing up my steampunk wardrobe for Costume College. I have such wonderfully silly plans; I hope I have the time to finish everything.

My garden is still alive. My patio doesn't get quite enough sun for it to really thrive, but I've got a nice selection of culinary herbs, the sole surviving strawberry plant is flowering away, and I've just planted a bunch of seeds (basil, marjoram, summer savory, sugar snap peas, and cucumber; will order heirloom tomato seeds shortly). Hope springs eternal, yes?

The dates for Labyrinth of Jareth went out this week, and hurrah! It doesn't conflict with the ALA Annual conference this year! Okay, time to start costuming for that...
