::hugs:: I'm sorry it's been rough. If it helps any, it's not abnormal to have postpartum depression. It's a hormonal thing. Unfortunately I don't know right off a good way of dealing with it. It may be as simple as using progesterone or something, I don't know. Hopefully your doctor will have some good and helpful advice. I'll be praying for wisdom, encouragement and healing for you!
They wanted me to go to counseling and get back on anti-depressants. Major bummer. At least for while I'm nursing it is. SO, not sure how to proceed. Things have been getting better, I think.
Glad things are getting better! So, are you currently on anti-depressants? I just asked about alternatives to anti-depressants on an midwifery email group I'm on... I'll let you know if I come up with any good information! There's a good chance someone has some good advice.
Wow - thank you so much for doing that for me. It's so funny about the gluten free thing because I've been looking at that lately. I'm going to research everything you showed me. And no, I'm not taking any anti-depressants at this time...reason being that I'm still nursing, and even though it's .03% that gets into the milk, that's .03% more than I want in her bloodstream. I've talked with a couple of close friends about it, and we've all decided that I should wait it out. :)
But really, thank you - that really touches my heart. :)
Here's one more message (Since Susie repeated Lindsey I'm only including Susie's message)
"I think you've already gotten some great ideas. I would second the recommendation of St, John's Wort, I know a lot of people use it as a preventative after baby. Our bodies make hormones out of fat so it's important that we have sufficient amounts of those(hence cod and primrose). The homeopathics Lindsey mentioned are great. Ignatia is for depression with anger and and grief. Aurum is for depression with despair and anger. Pulsatilla is for depression that's emotional(weepy) and irritable. And I would add Sepia, which is for the mother who hasn't bonded with her baby and is better from being busy. If you think more than one remedy fits go ahead and use them. Pulsatilla and Sepia are the most common homeopathics for ppd remedies." Susie
So it hit me at 3 am while I was feeding Azella!... Elaine has this AP remedy I think is better then buying each herb individually. It has valerian root, st.johns wort, you name it! She gave it to me for post partum and I was great! And what's better is that it probly only cost $10 if needed I can conntact her. April [IF you wanted to try something like that out, I can get in touch with Elaine, maybe she could mail it to you or something]
