Something That I Want

There were some things that Megamind had never expected to experience. Among these things were: a significant other, a home that was more, well, homely than a prison or an abandoned power plant and - oh, the face he once would have wanted to, and still did, to a degree, pull at the thought - gainful employment.

Well, he still argued that the ( Read more... )

Living in the Nexus really wasn’t so bad.

There was a lot to do here - a lot to see and discover. It was like this huge, sprawling, version of Metro City but ten times bigger and more vibrant and fantastic. There were people of any and every race, size, shape and color - and she had to admit, it was incredible.

Not to mention she happened to be here with Megamind, the one person that had come to mean more to her than anyone else.

She supposed it wasn’t that bad at all, actually - not when she stopped and thought about it.

Of course, there were moments when she missed Metro City - it’s tall, gleaming spires and that little diner on the corner that had her favorite kind of mixed coffee. She missed working for KMCP 8, and her boss that had cared about her in his own, gruff kind of way. She missed the smell of Metro City which was unique in and of itself - this place had a feel to it, but it wasn’t quite the same.

She tried her best not to have those doubting thoughts about leaving, and thoughts about how maybe they gave up too fast, but sometimes they came unbidden and she wasn’t able to banish them as quickly as she liked.

However, she knew it was for the best. There was no other way around it at this point - they’d tried, they’d made the effort, and they’d failed. She’d really thought the people would see, that they’d realize he was trying so hard to please them, but..they were as stupid and mule-headed as he always said they were.

It had been a crushing disappointment.

So now she enjoyed life in the new apartment she shared with Megamind and did her best not to get annoyed at the random things that ticked during the night or when she stumbled over a pair of fuzzy bat slippers early in the morning.

She’d found a job at a recording studio, of all places - secretarial work mostly, but the people she saw through the door were really something else sometimes, and she…surprisingly had very few complaints. The pay sucked in comparison but those were the breaks. They’d all made sacrifices, and she was okay with that.

She was already home when he came through the door, sprawled on the sofa and feet propped up, though her face instantly brightens when she sees him and she’s up and kissing him before he can even set his gifts down.

Megamind's face lit up when he saw his girlfriend. "Ah, there you--mmph!"

Oh! Kiss. Mmmm. Megamind was fairy sure he would never get entirely used to these spontaneous acts of affection, but at least now he wasn't stiffening or jumping out of his skin when Roxanne took him by surprise. Instead, he melted into the kiss, letting it linger for a while before eventually pulling back and beaming at her. Roxanne Ritchi, the most amazing woman in the world.

"For the record, I really like this way of saying ollo," he remarked. When Roxanne had asked for communication, Megamind had thrown himself into it and, after some initial hesitance, made sure to make it clear what he was and was not comfortable with. Kisses, hand-holding, hugging from the front and head petting were all fantastic and could be done spontaneously. Things like touching his neck required at least some warning and being hugged from behing was something that his survival instincts simply would not allow him to be comfortable with.

Winding his arms around Roxanne's waist once he had set the gifts down, Megamind's smile twisted into a smirk and he leaned in to murmur into her ear. "Now, Miss Ritchi, I have a selection of delights for you today and, given that I am in a generous mood, I have even decided to let you pick your poison for tonight - will it be that Italian you like, the Indian buffet, or take-out to celebrate this most spectacooler turn of events?"

"I thought you might like it." She smirked a little, gently nuzzling at his cheek before she gently slid her arms around him - slowly, so as not to startle. She'd already accomplished that by pouncing him the moment he walked in the door.

Not that he seemed to mind.

"Ooh, you do know how to tempt a lady," she murmured, squirming in his grasp. "I do have a craving for some good Indian..."

The nuzzling coaxed a small, very pleased sound out of him. Roxanne seemed to have some sort of intuition with regards to what pushed his buttons in the best way.

"Indian it is, then!" Megamind replied with a grin, stroking his girlfriend's hair. "Excellent choice, my dear, if I may say so."

He was bursting to tell her his news, but knowing Roxanne as well as he did, he knew it wouldn't be long before she was questioning the reason for all this and then - oh, then he would be able to reveal it with all the appropriate glory!

She kissed his cheek and stepped back, surprised but infinitely pleased.

“Just let me get a coat and change, okay?” He had something to tell her, that much Roxanne was sure of. It was all she could do to let go of him in order to go into their bedroom to change, beckoning him behind her.

“So…”

And, she couldn’t hold it in any longer. As she tugged her shirt off and kicked off her slacks, she snatched something a little nicer out of the closet.

“What’s the occasion?”

"Of course," he replied with a nod, then glanced down at his own attire. "I might do the same."

Casual clothing had been quite a battle between them, but eventually he had admitted that perhaps the employers he had to charm didn't quite appreciate his taste in fashion.

He still kept the collars of his shirts popped up, though.

Changing didn't have to happen immediately, though, especially when Megamind could exercise his boyfriend priveleges and watch Roxanne undress. Even after all this time, it made him feel giddy and just a little naughty.

"Ah!" he pulled himself up straight when the question finally came, crossing his arms and smirking. "Well, it could be that it just happens to be something to do with a certain event regarding the design of the new sector of the city..."

Nothing like stretching out his moment in the limelight. Architecture wasn't Megamind's favourite pursuit, but he had something of a knack for it and the competition had been one of the few ways he'd found he could get a line of work that wasn't utterly demeaning when his previous experience outweighed the fact that he'd done half a dozen long-distance degrees in his teens. One of the Warden's best ideas, really.

Roxanne had to admit, she very much enjoyed his eyes on her when she undressed. Sometimes she deliberately took her time, peeling articles off until he was fidgeting on the bed and ready to pounce her. She wasn’t doing that now, but she may have run her hands down her hips a few more times than absolutely necessary.

At his words, though…She dropped the little outfit she was holding and stared at him as the words sunk in.

“Designing a new - I heard about that, Megamind, that’s-“ Her face blossomed into a smile and she disregarded the pile of clothes on the floor and instead opted to come give him a hug, peppering his cheeks with little kisses.

“Did you…did you land that contract?”

Once upon a time, Megamind would have denied the possibility that he could giggle, as supervillains most certainly did not giggle.

Actually, he'd still deny it, but perhaps not as fervently, especially when giggling was precisely the sound coming from his lips as Roxanne peppered him with kisses.

"Even better!" he declared triumphantly, taking hold of Roxanne to pick her up and whirl her around. "Not only do I have this contract, but it has been hinted - none too soob-telly, I might add - that there may well be more coming, should all go well!"

Despite the fact that he would rather be working on something scientific, there was something undeniably remarkable about having the chance to leave his mark on the place that had brought him so much joy and so many opportunities. Perhaps it might even be his way of paying the Nexus back for everything it had given him.

She laughed when she was picked up and kept her arms around him until she was set back down. That was great news - she knew that he'd been feeling a little...out of sorts lately, and this was a huge breakthrough for...well, probably both of them.

"That's amazing, Megamind! I'm so proud of you!"

And she was, really - proud of him and his choices so far, proud that he'd chosen to do all this instead of taking the cards that he'd been given and going the villain route again. He'd tried - really tried even to be good despite everything he'd been through. And then when it'd all blown up in their faces and they'd left...he hadn't given up here. He'd kept trying, and Roxanne couldn't be happier.

Megamind had been birght before, but he positively beamed when Roxanne said that. Out of everything she could possibly say, hearing that she was proud of him ranked only just beneath hearing that she loved him. Given his doubts about his suitability for anything other than a life of villainy, knowing that he made Roxanne proud gave him confidence.

"Thank you!" he exclaimed, stealing a quick kiss. "I'm glad. And I am going to make this work splendidly, see if I don't! Now, they've already decided what this first commission is going to be called, but the next one is going to be dedicated to Roxanne Ritchi!"

She kept her arms tight around him, fingers locked behind his back.

"Really?" She smiled, eyes still lit up in that I'm so proud of you gaze. "That's so sweet of you, Megamind. You're going to be amazing at this, I know it."

"Really!" he assured her, grinned as he pulled her into another hug. "And thank you, but really, it's just what you deserve... Or - no, a better idea! A star - a planet - the brightest thing in the sky!"

It wasn't often that Megamind spoke poetically; he was too scientific and, it had to be said, even now too awkward to roll out enchanting metaphors and smooth-talking. Occasionally, though, something would come to him.

"Maybe I should see if I can rename the Evening Star," he mused as he kissed the tip of her nose. "Venus. That would be fitting."

This was one of those times where he got romantic with her -- and she loves it.

"Venus, huh?" She held him to her, resting her head on his shoulder with a smile.

"Mmm. I think that sounds wonderful..."

Megamind returned the smile, running the fingers of one hand through her hair.

"Excellent. The change will be for the benefit of everyone, really... I can't have people go around tooting the horn of some so-called goddess of love when you are the most beautiful being to ever exist."

That elicits a laugh and she tightens her hold on him, feeling delirious with her happiness. It's been a long, long time since she's felt so good.

"You know, you can be pretty sweet when you feel like it."

Beaming at the laugh, he chuckles softly himself.

"Really, my dear, I just tell the truth," he assures her. "I know you have such a fondness for that."
