Who: Professor Gustave Myros (
mygiantbluehead ), Professor Rapunzel Lily.
What: Discussing the coming school year and the challenges and rewards it will bring. Also, fluff.
When: Late August.
Where: The Hogwarts Express.
Gustave had never expected to become a teacher, much less hold a post at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. For the first four years he spent as a student there, the idea of teaching had been little more than a kernel of a dream, hidden away in the back of his mind and scarcely even acknowledged.
Then, at the beginning of his fifth year, he became close friends with Rapunzel Lily - then Rapunzel Gothel - and everything changed for the better.
Thinking of the adventures and hijinks they'd gotten up to in those last three years never failed to bring a smile to his face, especially when he remembered the triumphant moment when they had made all the right connections and finally tracked down Rapunzel's real parents. The look on her face at that moment was something he would never forget.
And Rapunzel had helped him, too. Immensely so, in fact. It was Rapunzel who had brought Gustave out of his shell, encouraging him to participate in extra-curricular activities, to be less of a bad boy and allow people to get close and - most importantly - to follow his dream. It had been difficult and there had been a lot of obstacles to overcome, but the end result was worth all of that and more.
Ten years ago, he had been an introverted troublemaker without a friend in the world. Now? Now he was a respected professor teaching a class with a curriculum entirely of his own invention, with the most beautiful, intelligent, amazing girlfriend in the world and a circle of friends and peers who didn't look down on him because of his past, his head or the colour of his skin.
As the Hogwarts Express travelled towards the famous school so the teachers could set things to right ready for the arrival of the students, Gustave smiled at Rapunzel - they had claimed a compartment for themselves - and knew that no matter what challenges the school year brought, it would be worth it.
"How many first years do you think will speculate that I'm an alien this year?" he asked, breaking the lull in conversation.
