If there was a Mandatory Mandate for HPV

Feb 07, 2007 09:43

Libertarians often speak of government as a necessary evil, as we know there are times when all available options are unfavorable, though some options may seem more favorable to us. Let us consider the necessity that if government must take a role in a thing, we must support the legislation that benefits society most (I mean, detriments society the ( Read more... )

Your irritation exposes your bias. The fact that you have HPV amuses me. Good luck with that.

But you're not worried about your daughters needing the vaccines. Or are you implying that they are reckless sluts? Certainly so, else you would not care.

Alright, after thinking about this, you offer an argument with one fatal flaw: only two solutions, neither of which are appealing and neither of which are likely to happen. Ultimately, the appropriate solution to this is not forced distribution nor is it an outright ban; rather, the appropriate solution here is to offer the vaccination as an option, leaving the choice of whether to take it or not up to the individual woman.

Your solution of an outright ban is no better than forced distribution -- it removes the choice from the woman.

Did you not read the post? Even the TITLE and first two sentences regard your concern. Let me repeat the part that would have prevented you from commenting as you did, should you have read it: "I do not support laws, but if I had to support a law about HPV vaccines, I'd support their illegality over their forced distribution." You might also read the part that is bolded and underlined, "So if there has to be a law about HPV vaccinations..."

Your solution of an outright ban is no better than forced distribution -- it removes the choice from the woman. When comparing two things, it does not due to state the downfall of one thing and pretend that the discussion is over. Further, the objection you state is unclear - doesn't it remove choice from the man as well as the woman? So what could your point be? And are you implying that you reject one of the premises listed after "Case:"? ( ... )

Of course it does, and up until I read a comment a few comments down I didn't realize that there were effects on men. My mistake, and I apologize. To clarify: the choice should belong to the individual, regardless of sex.

In general, just don't bore me like this. Be interesting if you're going to say something.

Will you relax? I tried to avoid insulting you; common courtesy would dictate you do the same to me.

Well then just insult me, anything's going to be less boring than half-commenting on an issue.

I think you need to go back to health class.

Men do not get HPV, but they are carriers of it. So any woman who is involved with a man who has ever slept with a woman who is infected at any point in his life is at risk.

I will say that it is a good thing for you that attitudes like this absolutely guarantee that you will never need worry about contracting an STD.

Human papillomavirus is a virus(notice the word virus in the name). If you are carrying it. You've got it, period. There are NO sex specific virii

Do have to actively work at saying stupid shit? Or does it just come naturally?

I don't need to go back to health class. Men do get HPV. The symptoms do not manifest themselves. At most, you're just calling me a male chauvinist and not attacking my premises.

I will say that it is a good thing for you that

Your joke is so easily thought of that everyone who posted before you thought it up and decided not to use it because it is so banal. I don't mind insults, just make them interesting.
