The retroactive immunity bill goes forward in the Senate.

Dec 17, 2007 12:46

The vote for cloture (ending debate) was 76-10.

Infuriating and anti-climactic. Welcome to the "Democratic majority."

ETA 1:46pm EST: Speeches ongoing in support of/against an amendment removing immunity from the bill. But I shan't be around to see it, so update in comments if anything changes ( Read more... )

Who were the 10 who voted against?

I didn't see the whole vote, but I know Kennedy and Kerry voted no. As would have Feingold.

I reserve the bulk of my scorn for Reid, who's honoring multiple Republican holds, but not Dodd's.

How can we rid ourselves of the "leadership" of Pelosi and Reid? I want to throw up (not just my hands) lately at the way they roll over for the Republicans.

Also Harkin, Cardin, Menendez, Feingold, Boxer, Wyden voted no.

I don't know. I hate to think of having to go after Pelosi, since she's not 100% evil, and she is the first female Speaker, and that was a source of joy. But they're just... I dunno, addicted to ineffectiveness. Either they're really emotionally damaged more than the rest of us by the last 7 years, or they think it helps them in 2008. Either way, it's revolting.

I actually really love Nancy fanatically, and agree with her on just about everything, so I find it pretty hard to hammer her. Still, I do wish we they hadn't turned into such a lame-duck Congress. =[

I used to love her, but she keeps doing weird shit. It's like her and Reid have committed to a holding pattern until the 2008 election. Which, even if it gets a Dem elected President, it also leaves everything for that Dem to clean up, and means they'll be blamed for "losing" Iraq if we withdraw... and blamed for the quagmire if they don't. Also, it undermines any claims Dems have to being agents of change, which is what people want. It's really short-sighted, IMHO.

Actually, it seems Kennedy voted yes. I am confused.
