... between
honorary Republican Joe Lieberman and
Real!Democrat!Challenger Ned Lamont. If you want to get more of a sense of who Ned Lamont is as opposed to why not to like Lieberman, I really liked
this clip of Ned Lamont being interviewed by Candy Crowley on CNN.
The latest polling shows
Lieberman cutting into Lamont's lead. It's now 51% Lamont to 45% Lieberman. (
Lieberman's workers are reportedly engaging in some nasty tricks, as well.) As the blogs have pointed out, with 4% undecideds, margin of error, and the unknown likelihood that a lot of unlikely voters not in the polling pool will turn out tomorrow, plus Lieberman's paid ground game, this is a pretty even race - no room for celebrations yet.
I'm considering heading down to Hartford tomorrow to phonebank/canvas for Lamont. Some of the considerations are my health and the cost of gas. But if any of you out there are in Connecticut or within driving range, you too can show up to help. Word is, they can still use the help. If you do go, remember to be polite and upbeat, and do not engage with any negative back-and-forth with Lieberman supporters.
Offer them a snowcone, that seems to stump them. ;-)
Here's the Lamont campaign's web form to sign up to volunteer.
Here's their contact page if you want to call and see if and where you're needed, or let them know you're coming. This page has maps to each of the campaign offices.
Too far away to come, but you still want to help? You can phone bank from wherever you are -
MoveOn has a webform where you can sign up to make calls to Democrats in CT. (I'm pretty sure legally you have to be an American (or legal resident?) to participate in MoveOn.Org's political actions. Check with them if you're not sure of your eligibility.)
