Gay marriage legal on three continents now

South Africa's High Court says it is unconstitutional to prohibit gays from marrying, and orders the legislature to fix that, mmmkay?

And check this out: "Only one of the court's 11 judges dissented from the ruling, arguing the court should have legalized gay marriage with immediate effect." And the gay rights activists are a little bummed that the court gave the legislature 12 months to do something about it. I suppose I get being disappointed this ruling didn't create isn't instant justice... but it's still the right ruling. And you have to book some halls a year in advance anyway. ;-)

South Africa's constitution is the only one in the world to specifically ensure equal rights for gays and lesbians. This may be partly a matter of having a constitution dating to the 1990s, but still. Go South Africa!
