Good God, they're bringing back the "liberals want to DESTROY CHRISTMAS ZOMG!!!" meme. When is this going to die?!?

From Kos via Media Matters:
Dear sweet merciful crap. Are we really going to go through this again?

So Bill O'Reilly, he of the infinite falafeled wisdom, is again beating the drum that Christmas is under attack. From who? Well, ( Read more... )

Ah, Jeez. Bill just ain't happy if he doesn't have something to bitch about.

Although I consider myself to be agnostic, I was raised with Christian traditions like Christmas and Easter. I celebrate them more as traditional, family, fun type of holidays than religious ones. If someone were to wish me a Happy Hannukah or Happy Kwanzaa instead of Merry Christmas I wouldn't be offended in any way, even though I don't celebrate those holidays. I would see it simply as them wishing me well. Happy Holidays does the same thing, only more succinctly.

I hope Santa gives Bill a big honkin' hunk of coal in his stocking this year. And I think Bill knows where we'd like him to stick it.

That's 'cause you keep your brain there. Toss it out, and that nasty headache will go away.

Honestly, the thing with Christmas? I'm not Christian, but I don't mind someone wishing me a merry Christmas. It's a well-wish, after all. They're not saying, "Jesus loves your heathen ass, which is why you'll burn in hell," even if they're thinking it. I like to wish people a happy solstice, both because it's not assuming they're the dominant religion, and because the solstice is a real planetary occurance, whether you do anything to commemorate it or not.

Amen. I hate the over-commercial, over-done, starts-before-Halloween Christmas that this country celebrates. It's rooted in money, which is about as far from the Yule/Gospel roots as one can get.
