R.I.P. Kurt Vonnegut (1922 - 2007)

Apr 12, 2007 10:22

Satirist-novelist Kurt Vonnegut, "fourth-generation German-American religious skeptic Freethinker," died yesterday at the age of 84 (Nov. 11, 1922 - Apr. 11, 2007).

Kurt Vonnegut was well known for writing such socially conscious cult classics best sellers as "Cat's Cradle", "Slaughterhouse Five", etc. Kurt was never afraid to question authorities, both wordly and ecclesiastic. He was a great libertarian and humanist, a member of American Civil Liberty Union and an honorary president of American Humanist Association.

In his later years he published mostly non-fiction short essays and articles. His last best seller, "A Man Without a Country" was a collection of such works. In it he had called this Bush Administration "upper-crust C-students who know no history or geography". Kurt was also very concerned about our planet's future.
