Axel couldn't bear the emptiness of not having a heart--
And in trying to bring a heart closer to himself, he perished.

We're going to post everything properly on kaybek when we've finished the game and unlocked Theater Mode (and can rewatch all these cut scenes), but this one is. kind of. really important. Anyone interested in that part of the game? Should definitely read this and track down a download of the scene to watch.
