Another lineart that I may or may not colour ...

The dragonrider chick from my previous post. I've spent a bit more time on putting details into her design this time, and I'm pleased with the result. Sadly, the amount of time spent dolling this up in mechanical pencil means that I currently lack the bottle to put pen and colour/watercolour pencil to it ... which really sucks. It's like that for many other sketches I do - I'd really like to colour them, but I lack the technical ability/tools to do it on the computer, and I'm worried about ruining it if I colour the original sketch.

I've thought about printing off the scanned lineart onto cartridge or watercolour paper, so I may do it that way. We'll see.

Anyway. Nell is holding a dragon's egg. It may look a bit small, but just think about those hatched dinosaur eggs in Jurassic Park! They were small, weren't they?!

It's not Zoreth's egg. It may be one that Zoreth has laid, so Nell may be feeling a bit of pride at her dragon here ... I haven't really decided yet.

What's certain though is that I'm becoming more confident in my drawing abilities, and I would definitely like to enter the Sweatdrop manga comp at Expo. (And I'll colour something for that.) And these characters are still interesting to me ... I'll most likely draw them more (and refine Zoreth's design) and maybe do a couple of character sheets or something ... oh, the possibilities!

Yesterday I did loads more on the San outfit. Well, not loads more, and nothing really significant ... I added another layer to the mask, so it may well be thick enough by now. And I finished painting the ears, and varnished one side of them and one side of the jewellery. So I'll be able to finish all of those today.

What's left to do unfortunately outweighs my current progress by quite a long way. I still have to make the boots, the tunic and the dress, and finish the mask. And then I have to do something with the fake fur in order to make one piece of it into a cape, and attach another piece to the mask in order to make the headdress.

The picture below shows the whole costume, pretty much, as I'm making it (apart from the blood round her mouth ... that might freak people out! ^_^):

So I still have a lot to do!! But I know I'm going to make it in time. I have to!

The art book I bought of Princess Mononoke is proving really useful so far though ... I've used it as a reference numerous times, and I used it yesterday to do a specification drawing of the dagger, which I gave to dad, as he's going to make it for me.

The rest of this holiday is rushing by. Tomorrow I'm going to Cambridge for the afternoon to visit rossmills and go to his birthday meal at Teri-Aki's. Should be good! And next weekend I'm going to Devon for a week with Rachel, and then after that I only have two more weeks before going back to Lancaster. I need to start thinking about reading lists for the courses, and doing a bit of writing, and of course I should start thinking way more about SCAN again.

So much to do!! Ah well, better than having nothing to do and being bored. Life is exciting at the moment!
