I believe that we create guidelines, borders, rules, lists of things we will never ever do. 95% of the time they're useful and necessary. However, the 5% allows for growth, learning, ammendments... and permission to throw the rules out the window all together.
This is the story of my first kiss.
I was wearing a white sundress in 40 degree weather. It was Halloween weekend, 2005, my freshman year and I was a beach bride. I even had fake flowers crowning my hair. We were at the Chem frat. There were girls from my floor there too even though i had gone with one of my friends who didnt live in my dorm. I was not... alcohol free, not rip roaring drunk... just not alcohol free. He was wearing '70s get up with the Afro except without the clogs. To this day i dont know his name... or what he even looks like. And I let him kiss me because... well, I'd never been kissed before and I was 18 and kind of just wanted to get it over with. Plus that friend of mine was busy kissing some random dude too... so i thought, "oh what they hey. let's see what all the fus is about"
I dont regret the fact that i "wasted" my first kiss. I'll always say that it would make a pretty interesting story to tell. Something to say that 'hey! look! i do get out sometimes and do kind of questionable things! Well, to an extent." I've ony ever once repeated the whole kiss a random dude on the dance floor thing. And I've currently promised my best friend that my third kiss will happen during a time that i will not have alcohol in me, not in a bar or a frat house and with someone i actually know by name and face. The thing is I believe in making rules for myself. Things that i would never, ever do. Like I currently have a rule that i will only ever be drunk once a month and only with people i can trust to get me home. I like this rule of mine and i've stuck to it ever since i made it. It's a good rule I think for two reasons. It doesnt forbid me from actually drinking and it mandates that i have to get home.
Here's another rule i have for myself. Always pass assignments on time.
(Probably not a good idea to talk about underage drinking in a paper i have to submit online)
