Summary: It's a rainy day.

"Rain, rain go away. Rain, rain go away."

Ryo heard the words coming from Dee the moment he walked into their home, and he paused, frowning.  The quality of his partner's voice was different than was usual, more subdued, more . . . drowsy or drugged.Ryo was not sure. Either way, it was unusual and a cause for concern, and he hurried into the room where he heard Dee's voice.

When he entered the room, a wave of shock overwhelmed Ryo. Dee sat in a high back chair of polished oak. His head rested against the window itself, and he occasionally lifted it just to let it thud gently against the glass. His eyes were slightly glazed over, and his expression was one of tiredness. If Ryo hadn't known better, he would have said his partner (and lover) had taken some kind of illegal drug. As quietly as he could manage, he walked over to Dee and gently grasped the younger man's shoulder.

"Dee?"

At the sound of his voice, Dee stopped banging his head against the glass, and he blinked. He then turned and gazed directly into Ryo's eyes, seeing him yet not seeing him. To Ryo's surprise and horror, his partner's eyes were glazed over and rather . . . droopy-looking, as if he were, indeed, medicated.

"Ryo?" Dee whispered. "Is that you?"

"Yes," Ryo replied, blinking. "It is. Dee, what . . ."

Upon hearing his voice, Dee smiled. It was a weak smile, but it was also a smile of happiness. A bit of life returned to Dee's eyes, and his hands reached for Ryo.

"They said you would never make it here . . . that you would never come to see me ever again," Dee murmured. He sat up a little straighter in the chair as well, and, for the first time since entering their home, Ryo felt something was a bit . . . off. He couldn't help but notice the way Dee's hands shook as they reached for him, eager to touch him. "They said you were gone forever, but you're not. You're right here . . ."

Tears started to well in Dee's eyes, and his hands moved ever closer to Ryo's face. Yet, at the moment he should have felt those hands, there was nothing firm. If anything, it was a hint of a touch, and Dee's fingers slid right through Ryo's cheeks. When they did, Dee paused, his expression turning from joy to shock, disappointment, and sadness. Horror overwhelmed Ryo, and something unnameable, indescribable yet sad and heavy inside of him dropped.

"You're not really here . . ." he whispered. The tears spilled over his cheeks. "It's my fault. It's all my fault. I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry . . ."

"Dee, what . . ."

Rather than answer him, Dee pulled away. His crestfallen expression tore at Ryo like a thousand knives and razor blades cutting into his flesh all at once, and he reached for his partner, to hold him and to comfort him, unaware of his body gliding through the wheelchair's handles . . .
