Sleep can be a very good thing (or, "Whatever it is, O'Connell, you can forget it!"

Of course, to ib, sleep is for the weak. lol. But sleep is a good thing. I feel more motivated to write today. And it's nice to start with a movie quote, too!

Don't ya just love how mood corresponds with inspiration? XD

Out of all of my hobbies, I think the cheapest one I have is writing. Seriously! I have collections but those tend to cost more than buying writing supplies.

Finding old Generation One Transformers toys: moderately expensive. Yeah, I've gotten some stuff for free but that's because, when I was going to conventions, I was letting a friend sell her toys at my table. Everything else has been $30 or more. And I still don't have the characters that I want, either.

Bangles paraphenalia: Oh, yes. Another moderately expensive hobby, especially when looking for stuff from the band's heyday. eBay is NOT my friend.

Books: This one can be tricky. If you go to the right place, as I'm sure some of you will tell me, you can get books dirt cheap. Or just head to the library. (The latter is entirely plausible except there are times I take too long to read a book and libraries have due dates, much to my dismay. :P) However, I like my books shiny and new.

CDs and DVDs: Yep, more stuff to be expensive for me. LOL. I know I can download music and go to someplace like BlockBuster for movies but, well, after a while, renting movies becomes more expensive than what it's worth, especially when there's one film you just HAVE to see on a semi-regular basis.

Writing: As I said, it's the cheapest of my hobbies. Pens and notebooks, depending on your pleasure, are cheap. And they're portable! What's not to like about that?

I'll do this as long as there's a way for me to pay for what I'm downloading. I don't believe in free downloading. I believe the artist has worked hard and put a great deal of effort into the finished project. They deserve to be paid, as well as the engineers and techs that helped to create the end results. That would be like me or nolan_ash getting a book published and someone uploading the text for free reading. Everyone has bills to pay, even the record companies (as much as that burns people).

For those of you who are involved in scanlation groups . . . I'm not sure how I feel about that, considering the work is still in its native Japanese and someone out there has paid to get the material.

And my mind's just ran away on that one. lol. Sorry. I still haven't had enough caffeine!

This, I think, is a very fun subject to talk about. :) Anime vs manga, manga vs anime, which do you prefer?

Don't answer that. lol. Here's why.

A person prefers the first thing that (s)he is exposed to, generally speaking. For example, I prefer the anime universe Inuyasha to its manga universe. The anime was the first thing I was exposed to, thanks to certain college friends of mine.

Better yet, I'll go with Transformers (and it's probably a better example for me to use). Hehehe.

For generation one fans, there are two groups. The cartoon-based fans and the comic-based fans (I'm not even going to touch upon the difference between the U.S. and U.K. comics for G1). Both groups will go round and round as to which is the "true" universe, which, in reality, their opinions are based upon what they know. If they read the comics first, that is there universe. If they watched the cartoons first . . . you get the idea. Some fans will try and meld the two but only to a certain extent and only if they like certain aspects of that particular universe. (I'm thinking of my friend, Raksha, here because she has done that with her fiction. Not everyone agrees with her but that's their decision and their right. She knows that and respects it. Just be prepared if you're going to try and start a verbal argument with her and don't expect her to change her mind just because you have a point. She would never do that to you so don't do it to her.) Otherwise, the arguments can get pretty nasty. XD

Go to one of the many forums and say, "Brawn is dead." Then sit back, relax with a bowl of popcorn and some soda, and enjoy the show!

And I think that's it for today. lol. I may have a fiction entry or two later on but I'm not for certain. We'll see how the day goes. XD
