People that call other people ugly are shallow, insecure, and are the truly ugly ones. You are a beautiful person, Lia. You've made me feel special countless times. It doesn't matter if you look like a super model if you have the personality of a wet rag. I've never met a person beautiful on the outside and the inside. Personally, I'm much happier being a butt-ugly angel ;)

If you want to be Golden Glider, than DO IT! If anyone makes fun of you, they'll have to get through the other Rogues (Dave and I), first :P And no one messes with us...we're a tag team of awesome! And random movie quotes...but mostly awesome!

Yeah, I agree that people who put down others' appearance are assholes for sure -- doesn't necessarily mean they're wrong, though. I'd rather be a nice person than a beautiful one, but still don't like getting picked on for how I look. Years of bullying at school taught me to keep my head down in certain situations -- cosplaying at all was a fairly big step for me, but I went as a male character for a reason (well, that and he's my favourite :> But Lisa's my second-favourite.)

Anyway, I appreciate your support, thank you :) I guess we'll see how much (if any) confidence I can scrounge up.

My first foray into cosplaying was as Heero Yuy from Gundam Wing many years ago. I just got more insecure as I got older. Ahh, youth :)

If I could walk around in a tank top and spandex shorts, you can be anyone you damn well want to XD

Even before Harris' nonsense I've seen a lot of people make fun of cosplayers they think of as not so great...I'm way more sensitive than I ought to be, so I worry about getting made fun of :\

Then, where's the fun in cosplaying if you're going to spend all of your time worrying? Live for the moment, Lia! I think you make a great Top! Some of the most respected people in this world are those who do what makes them happy and don't give a damn about what people think. Teddy Roosevelt, Bob Ross and Mr. Rogers are my heroes. I also love Freddie Mercury, and he made anything he wore look awesome ^^

Ehhhh, unfortunately "spend all your time worrying" sums me up in a nutshell. You're talking to somebody who periodically loses the nerve to post on Tumblr because she fears everyone will hate/mock her.

Lia, you are a wonderful person. If anyone's going to mock you, send them my way and I'll tell them like it is. I'm good like that ;)

Thank you :) That's why I don't allow anonymous comments at my Tumblr -- it's practically an invitation to bullying. People there can be surprisingly mean.

The frequency of nasty people has steadily increased with the introduction of online social communities, games, etc. The fact that you can post something terrible anonymously takes away any responsibility to be decent to your fellow humans.

It gives them a platform for sure. Some people have always been this awful to others (I was badly bullied as I've said, and of course bullying isn't new), but yeah, there are definitely people who take advantage of modern anonymity. Some do it for the convenience, and some don't quite realize there's a living person on the other end of it.

At any rate, I know people can leave awful comments on my blog with their Tumblr username (and let's face it, that's pretty close to being anonymous), but not letting them do it completely-anonymously seems to keep them relatively kind. It's a compromise that gives me some peace of mind, at least.

Reading what I wrote just now, it suddenly occurs to me that it seems like I'm defending people who bully others for their appearance. Absolutely not; I spent years on the receiving end of that, and hate it. Just saying that even those people were assholes, I still think they were correct, unfortunately.
