I just got my first tattoo about 3 hours ago from my best friend's friend who does it for a living. Her parents live in Ohio and she comes home about once every three years and tattoos us all in her off-time. She seriously is amazing... my tattoo is so clean and well done. It's Deacon Frost's familiar glyph from Blade I. I got this particular thing due to a number of convoluted reasons:
The meaning of the tattoo in the movie is that it shows ownership to the vampire. This appeals to me because of the sense of ownership which I have romanticized for most of my life, as well as the vampire thing. Live-Action Roleplaying as a vampire was the start of my adult life. It taught me a number of things about roleplaying and gaming, as well as socializing, politics, and life. It introduced me to the BDSM lifestyle through my portrayal of a vampire slave which hooked me up by chance with a RL mentor. My longest lasting friends came from game. Basically, it shaped my adult life.
Second, it looks like a stylized form of "Lia" which is a name I have associated with myself since I was 14 years old. It has been my internet alias since I joined the internet and I have long and meaningful memories to go with it.
The placement was me trying to keep in the semi-spirit of the movie and be able to "hide" it, plus I've always had this thing about getting a tattoo on my right arm/hand. I also wanted to be able to see it.
I'm already planning for something else, but I'm not sure what yet. I'd love to get something on the top of my right hand between my thumb and my forefinger, but I still don't know what.
As for pain, I already knew I have a high pain tolerance in my ass, but apparently it expands to my entire body. It hurt about as much as I thought it would and was completely tolerable. The only time it was jaw-clenching was when she was shading in the "L" because it was over a long period of time and the nerves were like right there. I really enjoyed it though, totally worth it.
This is hotlinked from Facebook until I can get home and save it to my computer. I'm on Ben's laptop atm.
