I just messed with my keyboard settings in windows. It is pretty cool in concept. But it fails in a few areas. (Perhaps, some of you computer people can provide solutions...?)
This ρημα should be in Greek.
This דבר should be in Hebrew (Cool! it even types backwards!)
This á should be accented.
Now, those were successes, but there are a few problems:
- The way to put the accents over letters is to use specifically the right Alt key. the problem is that the Alt key is usually assigned functions by various programs, such that if I try to put an accent over ö (Hey, I just figured out how to do that accidentally -- you use the """ key first.) by using the Alt key, it pops up the Open File dialog box in Windows.
- The """ must be hit two times in a row to get it to actually type a """, and then it types two, and you have to backspace to erase one of them.
- I have no idea what keys correspond to which Hebrew characters. "A" does not correspond to aleph.
- The symbols depend on the font selected. The above works for me in some fonts, but not in others. I'm guessing that they didn't even show up for most of you.
Now, why is there not a digital keyboard that has keys that change their picture based on what the keyboard setup is at that moment? I would love to see such an invention.
