I woke up early this day, even before my alarm rings. It was a nice morning and I was feeling lazy. I remained laying on my bed and yawning every few minutes. Lots of memories of the last week flowed into my mind when I remembered what lighto said yesterday. She will get fired , how and why, I didn’t know, all yamap told me that it’s a bussniss thing. I remembered at this moment my talk with yamap the other day, when he insisted on knowing whats happening, it was 2 days after the wedding day…
Yamapi:”keiichan, you look tired…” I yawned and said…
Koyama:”yea I didn’t sleep well the last days”
Yamapi:”why, were you having company”and he poked me. I smiled sadly and said…
Koyama:”what company you are talking about, I just couldn’t sleep”. He looked to me thoroughly
Yamapi:”whats wrong keichan, tell me?” I waved with my hand
Koayam:”its ok never mind it”.. he insisted saying …
Yamapi:”come on keichan let it out, im your friend , u know u can tell me anything”
Koyama:”well, its just im worried about lighto, shes really depressed, shes not eating or even having good sleep “
Yamapi:”lighto san, why is she depressed??”… I told hin about the wedding night. Then I said
Koyama:”I couldn’t sleep at all that night, I was really troubled that she went through this, and now shes having nightmares every night. Yesterday, I heard her waking panicked in middle of the night”
Yamapi:”why didn’t you try talking to her?“
Koyama:” I did, every time I try to talk to her, she change the subject and leave the place, I don’t know how can I make her just open up, im afraid that theres something happened she didn’t tell me about”
Yamapi:”keiichan, relax maybe its nothing, girls sometimes get depressed for unusal reasons, its normal.. just give her some time she will be ok”
I nodded to him, but that didn’t relief me, cuz I was sure there was something wrong. I was really troubled before I knew what she hid for the whole week and now I think im more troubled. Is she gonna leave and go home for real, but she just got here, its unfair to her to go home like this. i had an uneasy feeling about this, dunno why, but I was somehow angry.
While I was drowned in my thoughts, my alarm rang. I switched it off and went down stairs to help mom preparing breakfast. Suddenly , my cell phone rang, it was yamashita kun..
koyama:”hai moshi mosh”
Yamashita:”ohayouuuuu”
Koyama:”ohayou gozaimasu, ”
Yamashita:”nee~ tell me, is lighto san awake, is she beside you?”
Koyama:”no shes not here, she still in her room, I think shes awake, cuz its her time to leave to work, why are you asking?”
Yamashita:”I wanted to ask her about something, can you give me her mobile number”
Koyama:”yea sure, ill send it to you in a message”
Yamashita:”aha thx a lot, hey are ready for the recording today?, we have to be perfect this time to publish the album soon, lets do our best ne~”
Koyama:”hai , ganbaremasu”
I closed my phone with those words , wondering … what does he want to ask her about… I was curious.
I sent him the number, and started eating breakfast with mom. I was thinking, do I have to go ask her come to eat breakfast, or she will skip as she did all the days last week. What can I do to make her feel better, or to solve her problem, I don’t even know what is exactly her problem about, all she said that she will get fired and yamapi said that its something about business . maybe yamapi have something for her. Mom interrupted my thoughts saying…
Mom:”theres a phone ringing…”
Koyama:”maybe its lighto’s phone, I think yamashita kun is calling her now”
Mom:”the sound is really close, maybe she forgot her cell phone somewhere here and not in her room”
Koyama:”yea that’s right, let me see”
I went to the sound source, I found her laptop bag beside the stairs, I remembered that she left it there yesterday, maybe her phone is inside. I opened the bag and took out the phone it was still ringing, yamashita must had something really important to tell her, cuz it kept ringing. I went up stairs to her room to give it to her. I knocked on her door twice and she didn’t reply. It was strange, cuz it was her time to go to work , she was even late, and that wasn’t normal. The phone stopped by then, but I was wondering why shes not answering her door. I knocked again twice but no answer too. I opened the door slowly calling her to notify her that im entering her room. I saw that the bed was empty but the door was kinda stuck like there was something blocking it. I looked behind it calling her name again, I saw what shocked me at that moment. What was blocking the door , was her body. She was on the floor on her side completely unconscious. I called my mom to come here, and hurried to her. She was sweating a lot, and her skin was like a burning hell.
I moved her from behind the door and tried to wake her up. My mom got here by then, she shouted a little scream when she saw her. I grabbed her shoulders and lifted her back alittle on my knee, I tapped on her cheek to wake her up. She opened her eyes a little rolling them in all direction. My mom talked to her, but she looked so weak to even speak.
Koyama:”she has a high fever”
Mom:”ill go get some ice”
Mom left downstairs, and I carried her to her bed. I couldn’t believe how hot was her temperature .
She said few words , I put my ear close to her mouth asking her to say it again
Light:”whats the time now?”
Koyama:”its 8 oclock”
Lighto:”I have to go to work”
Koyama:”in this condition, I don’t think so”
Light:”you don’t understand, I have to …” she coughed then said :”please …”
My mom was back at this moment asking:”what is she saying?” and she put an ice bag on lighto’s forehead . I said :”she wants to go to work”
My mom looked to her saying:”are you crazy, do you want to kill yourself, honey, theres noway ill let you out of your bed for tow days”
She teared saying:”please…”.
Mom looked to her saying :”im sorry honey, but you are not going anywhere”
Then mom looked to me in a way that I knew she wanted to talk to me in private. I went outside and she whispered to lighto something then followed me.
Mom:”keichan , I think she needs a doctor”
I looked down for seconds then said:”ok , ill take her to the ER”
Mom:”ill come with you”
I sighed then went in, i carried her in a fast move and walked out the room. She was surprised, she asked in a weak voice:”where are you taking me?”
I didn’t answer her. Mom followed me and I put her in the car on the back seat while mom took her place beside her putting lighto’s head in her lap and the ice bag on her head. I drove the car, while I heard lighto asking mom continuesly whats happening, she cried a lot when mom told her.
When we arrived, I carried her out the car. I didn’t understand a word from her cuz she was talking in her own language, and I bearly felt her weak smacking on my back. All I heard back then is her low voice begging in different languages, and the only thing I could understand is “onegaishimasu onegaishimasu”
Her hot tears were flowing on my neck while her arms were surrounding my shoulders harder by the second.
Some nurses hurried to me when I entered the ER, they lead me to one of the rooms asking me whats wrong, I told them what they wanted. After I put her on the bed, one of the nurses pushed me gently outside the room saying :” can you wait outside sir , don’t worry shes is in good hands now”
I stayed with my mom in the waiting room till the nurse who pushed me out came with a doctor. The doctor started the talk…
Doc:”hello , you are the one who brought the foreign girl right?”
Koyama:”yes,my name is koyama keichiriro and this is my mom, lighto is living in our house”
Mom:”hows she doctor??” he smiled to my mom and said…
Doc:”don’t worry mam, she will be fine, the nurse will lead you to her room” and he nodded to the nurse who took mom away to lighto’s room, while I stayed to cuz the doctor stopped me with his hand.
I looked to him worried, he said :”koyama san , can I talk to you”
Koyama:”sure…”. He took me to his office closed the door and we sat down before he asked
Doc:”tell me koyama san, was she on diet or trying to lose weight”
Koyama:”not as far as I know, but she bearly ate last week, she had a depression due to work problems, if that what you asking about”
Doc:”I see…”
Koyama:”tell me doctor, how bad is her case”
Doc:”im sorry to say that koyama san, but its really bad, I think she had a simple flue at first, but since she didn’t eat well, or apparently never rest, it developed to a serious case. the bad news is , her body is really weak now, we gave her medications to low her temperature, and we have done everything we could. Lets hope that she get through this quick enough.”
Koyama:”and if she didn’t….”
Doc :”lets not predict the bad things, we will wait till tomorrow. We will know by then, the important thing is you all have to cheer her up, and be beside her all the time. She definitely needs your support”
Koyama:”we will, thank you doctor for your hard work” he nodded to me while I stood up to leave.
After few minutes, I was standing in front of her room, i didn’t know what kind of feelings I had at the moment, but all what I felt was like something squeezing my heart inside. I was really worried, and I felt kinda responsible of what happened. I should have cared more, or at least forced her to see a doctor sooner than this. I don’t really know what kind of feelings I have towards her, I always felt as shes a new born sister. Although it was just 1 month since she got here, but I have to admit that we got used to her really fast, like she has always been there since years. She was never as any of the students who stayed in our house before.
I jumped lightly to the sudden vibration in my pocket and a high ringing sound. I grabbed the phone of my pocket, it was hers, and the caller was yamashita kun. I answered him …
Koyama:”haii, yamashita kun , its me koyama”
Yamashita:”eehhh keichan, did I called you by mistake, I was trying to call lighto”
Koyama:”no no , this is her phone, she cant talk right now”
He was surprised, I told him all what happened and what the doctor said. He finished the call saying that he will come here, and he has something important to say.
I closed the phone, and before I get in to lighto’s room, it rang again. It was jamee this time. This call went exactly how yamashita’s call did, and she said she will come too, I tried to change her mind but she insisted to. After this I wanted to go in to see lighto, but again the phone rang for the third time. This time the screen showed “BOSS” word on it. Is he her boss. I hesitated a bit, do I have to answer or just ignore this call, I must tell him that shes sick and cant go to work for days. But I don’t know why I was afraid to answer. I opened it at last…
Koyama:”moshi moshi”
Boss:”eehhh , im sorry I might dialed the wrong number” he spoke in English. I said fast before he hang up.
Koyama:”ohh wait, are you calling lighto’s phone?, its me koyama, I don’t know if you know me” I spoke in weak English.
Boss:”yea, im lighto’s boss in her home country, you are one of the koyama family she is staying with, lighto said a lot about you, thanx for taking good care of her”
Koyama:”ohh its my duty sir, im sorry but lighto cant speak at the moment, shes in the hospital”
Boss:”eeehhh, really what happened?”
I gave him quick details about her last week, and how she was pushing herself too hard for work to the extent that it drove her to the ER. He was surprised and a little bit ashamed.
Boss:”I didn’t have any clue of this, im so sorry to hear that, I hope she get well soon, please notify me with any new details, ill talk to her boss in japan, tell her to not worry about anything until she completely recover”
Koyama:”ok sir, ill” and we hanged up.
I waited a bit to see if her phone will ring again before I enter the room, but it didn’t at all. So I switched it to silent and entered the room.
She was sleeping and my mom was sitting beside her on the bed, she looked sad. She looked to me saying:”why we didn’t notice before she gets to this, I never thought she will get this sick”
I tapped on her shoulder saying:”mom its not your fault”
Then I said:”let me drive you home, shes sleeping now, its not usefull to stay here”
Mom:”no dear I wanna be here when she wakes up maybe she will need something, it will be embarrassing for her to ask you anything”
Koyama:”shes not gonna wake up till hours, and jamee is gonna come here, you can come back later, she must need some clothes and stuff anyway, you can bring everything she may need from home for her”
She agreed finally and I took her home, before I leave home, yamashita called me
Yamapi:”keichan im at the hospital, where are you?”
Koyama:”I drove my mom home, ill comeback now”
Yamapi:”wait , before you come, can you bring me lighto’s laptop, ill tell you why later”
Koyama:”ok, see you soon then”
I took lighto’s laptop bag which was still beside the stairs and drove back there. At the hospital I saw both yamapi and jamee. Jamee was upset , while yamapi was eager to have lighto’s laptop. He took it and went to the waiting room, while I stayed with jamee to comfort her a bit.
An hour passed before I see shige and tegoshi in front of me, I was surprised. Apparently the news was going around NEWS. Even nishikido came with massu when they heard about lighto the next day. It wasn’t the member ai this time, it was the friend ai.
Few hours passed before I had to leave to do the recording, while jamee already canceled her lectures that day to stay beside her friend. I came back late at night to find my mom there and lighto was awake.
Koyama:”heeeeyy kid, how are you now”
Lighto:”eehh kid?? , im feeling good, I can go home”
Mom:”honey don’t start again , you know that the doctor said you cant leave before 2 days”
Koyama:”why the rush lighto, even your boss said that you don’t have to worry about anything until you are completely healed”
She looked freaked out saying:”you talked to my boss, which one, what did he say?”
Koyama:”hes your home company boss, he was worried about you and he said he will take care of everything, so all you have to do is just rest and not think of anything”
She didn’t reply but she looked relieved and sad at the same time which confused me.
Then mom said:”ill get some coffee do you need anything lighto chan” she shook her head, and mom left. I looked to lighto and asked her:”why you seem sad??”
She looked down then said:”I really tried to not bother anyone with me, and to deal with my problems alone, but here I am failing and troubling everybody into this with me, im really really sorry. Ever since I came here I bothered you and koyama san with me, I cant apologize enough, im such a troublesome”
I sat on her bed beside her and said:”who said you are a trouble, you might never noticed this, but my mom really loves you, as never she did for any of the visitors before. You are one of the family now, everytime I have to leave for a work trip I always feel that its better than before cuz you there with mom and im not leaving her alone in the house as it was before you come. You have done a lot of good things around the house and we don’t consider you but one of us now, so cheer up kid we really like you being with us”
She teared up with those words, so I tapped on her head and gave her a smile, she smiled back and looked happy as ever. I missed seeing her happy face.
2 days later, we all were gathering at her room when the doctor finally gave her the permission to go home in the next day, she was relieved and happy. After the doctor left yamashita said…
Yamapi:”ok now I have another good news for lighto” we all looked to him wondering.
He raised up his hand with some papers saying:”I was working on some information I found about the competing comapies you talked about lighto chan, I summarized them and made some good ideas that it would help your company in the proposal they have to give, you can send those by fax to them, I think tomorrow is the dead line right, they still have time to make a new proposal, here you go look at them”
She jumped sitting on her bed taking the papers that yamapi handed to her yelling:”REALLY…”
She looked to them and read them fast, while smiling big on every page. Then she looked to yamapi saying:”oh god, I love you so much, you are an angle”
Then she looked back to the papers not realizing that everyone was looking surprised to her words, especially yamapi.
Yamapi:”well, I … I …”
She interrupted him saying:”you are my hero, thank you sooo much, I owe you this for the rest of my life, how could you find such information, its sooo hard to find”
Yamap was completely red but she didn’t notice anything around her. I looked to everyone trying to see their reaction, shige and massu and especially ryo were holding a big laugh inside their mouths. Tegoshi was smiling lightly, while jamee was looking to lighto funny look. For me I was shocked to hear that, but looking to her made me think that she didn’t really meant it.
Poor yamapi didn’t know how to react, but finally he got over his embarrassment and answered her question in humming words:”lets say I know someone who knows someone who owns the biggest company in Tokyo, and he owned me a favor so… you can figure the rest out”
She looked to him then to the papers continuously, to the extent that I thought she went crazy. She was so excited abt it, and I felt happy for her. Then she said:”I must send those now, but where can I find a fax, do they have any here”
I said :”give them to me and give me the fax number , ill send them for you”
She looked to me so happy:”really, oh god i don’t know how to thank you enough and yamashita kun”
We both shook our heads, then I left to send the papers and yamapi followed me, leaving the rest of them still looking to each other and smiling while lighto was still clueless about them.
I said looking to yamapi when we were walking out the hospital..
Koyama:”it was really nice of you to help her with her work problem”
Yamapi:”well, it didn’t take long from me, and I felt that I could help her”
Koyama:”anyway, you really did a great job, all what she can do now is just wait to see if things will go ok and they win the association, or not”
Yamapi:”yea , at least she wont get fired cuz these papers show the best thing any one would work, and now its totally up to this Japanese company.”
I looked to farest point my eyes could see, hoping that she could stay here longer. All I wanted is she gets what she worked hard for.
