Several people have been doing these, and I figured it might not be a bad idea to take a look at how I'm doing too.
It seems like I've been back in fandom forever, even though it's only been ten months. But what a ten months it has been! I'm not the world's fastest or most prolific writer, but I'm pleased to discover that I've had a decent year overall.
Earth 2 - 25,383 words
In addition, I got Seventeen Months completely outlined at the highest level, and got the first 9 installments (out of 26) outlined down to the scene level.
Firefly - 14,264 words
Four currently-unrevealed Yuletide items - 4,144 words
That's a total of 43,791 words for 2008. This figure doesn't count NaNoWriMo or the Voyager rewrites. I've also only counted the final version of "Lent." In other words, I'm really over 50,000. It'd likely have been even more were it not for some real-life issues that developed in late October and which, unfortunately, are still going on.
They will be for some time yet - the earliest I expect them to start clearing is June or July - but I've started to get a time-type handle on them so I've been able to start writing again. Dealing with them will still slow me down, however.
As I mentioned, I'm not the kind of writer who casually knocks out 5-10K words at a time, so I'd have been surprised to see a number like the six figures I've seen from some people. I believe 2008 has actually been my best year ever - even if it was only about ten months long.
