Anyone have any ideas (humane) as to how to keep a cat off a desk? I cleared off my desk so I can work on it, and now Sam has discovered it , and it is one of his Favorite Places. If all the stuff is covered, use a squirt bottle. Granted it only works when you're there, but it's a start. i keeps Scrumpoff my dsk by the simple proces of keeping the desk so cluttered it scares him bu that's probably not the best soultion.

As for when you're not there? There's nothing you can do. They're just Like That.

Yup, watergun works nicely.

I have *heard* that there are certain scents that cats really dislike, citrus maybe being one of them?. Perhaps you could try something along those lines?

At one point when the laptop isn't on there, put a few pieces of paper with a lot of scotch tape on them, so that when he jumps up, the tape will stick to him. It won't hurt him, but running around for a few minutes with paper stuck to 'em is often enough to keep them down. It's how I kept my cats from climbing into the baby's crib.

Alternately, take a bunch of empty soda cans, put a couple pennies in them, and again, set them on the desk. He'll knock them over when he jumps up, and the clanging might startle him enough to keep him down.
