Anyone have any ideas (humane) as to how to keep a cat off a desk? I cleared off my desk so I can work on it, and now Sam has discovered it , and it is one of his Favorite Places. I've covered the sewing machines, and I never leave the laptop open when I'm not there, but i'd just as soon he didn't sit up here.

In other natterings, the symphony tonight was very fine. Conductor was Mistislav Rostropovich, and the pieces were faboo. First half was a little fanfare that had been written for R's 70th birthday, where the brass was scattered all over the house of the concert hall. Second was Prokofiev's first symphony, which is cheerful and upbeat and goes at warp-speed. I got a sentence of Obi-vole noted down in the interval, it was very Obi-vole-ish music.

The second half of the program was Shostakovitch's 8th symphony, and oh my goodness. Not a 'nice' piece at all, and positively dripping with irony. Loud, and soft, plangent and vicious, it covered the whole gamut in a very Russian-Mahlerian way. Wow.

And Barbana made be an animated icon! (haven't loaded it in yet, but will make a point of posting something appropriate presently!) Yay!
