Take 5 for Faith: FEAST OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY

Oct 29, 2011 11:47

Mary, updated Traditional images of Mary show her “meek and mild”: eyes downcast, arms enfolding her son, or hands pressed together in prayer. She stood or sat with the stillness of eternity wrapped around her. If she extended herself at all, it was in arms held downward and outward to her children throughout history calling for her intercession. Recently, new artists are portraying a more active woman-the Walking Madonna by Elizabeth Frink, for example: elderly, striding, purposeful, like the many grey-haired ladies who are the backbones of their parishes. Mary still has places to go and things to do. Care to come along? TODAY’S READINGS: Romans 11:1-2, 11-12, 25-29; Luke 14:1, 7-11 “For the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable.”
