Take 5 For Faith
FEAST OF MARTIN I, POPE, MARTYR
God’s grace will be your guide

Standing up for our values and our faith in God is never an easy thing to do. Sometimes our decisions can lead to justice and vindication and other times to suffering and death. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who are celebrated in the Book of Daniel, though willing to face a fiery furnace because of their belief in God, were spared. Pope Martin I, who also willingly stood up for his belief in God and in the human and divine natures of Jesus, did not prevail against his accusers. He was tortured, imprisoned, and exiled. God’s favor is not tied to our success in changing hardened hearts. All God asks of us is faithfulness. May the witness of Martin and Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego give us the courage to trust in God always.
