In an effort to procrastinate even more on my interview write-up, I give you a brief update that piggy backs on my last post:
Exiting Portfolio
We'll, it's turned in. I feel pretty confident about my book review and second lesson plan with rationale. I feel embarrassed about my first lesson plan, especially the rational (3 pages compared to the 8-page rationale from the other lesson plan). In speaking with the director, she is disappointed with many of the lesson plans, which has sent me into an acute case of self doubt for the past two days.
Job Interviews
At the TESOL conference, I spoke with some recruiters from a progressive university in Saudi Arabia. Gender apartheid aside, the job and location are very enticing. I would potentially be working for the women's college at the university, teaching writing and CALL-based speaking and listening. I'd live on campus and have good teacher support and resources. When's the next chance I'll be able to do something like this? Probably never, so I might as well take up the challenge.
After a minor scheduling snafu this morning (a misunderstanding as to whether the interview was EST or CST), I have a phone interview with U of Iowa tomorrow morning. I'm not expecting any job to come out of this, but at least I'll have jobs to choose from now.
Graduation
T-minus three weeks, as long as my portfolio has been approved. My diploma frame arrived at my parents' house and I've picked up my Master's package from the bookstore. Black gown and mortar board, white tassel, and green/white hood.
Travel
New York City. There aren't enough hours in the day to explore this bustling city. What I find interesting is that even when walking around the city without a plan, it's pretty easy to bump into places that you've read or heard about (e.g., Rockefeller Center, Empire State Building, Times Square). I really liked Little Italy in the Bronx. If only there had been time for Queens and Brooklyn. The downer of the week -- getting my wallet lifted at Ray's Pizza. Awesome.
San Francisco -- in less then a month, I'll be there. I've booked my flight and decided upon a hostel while my hosts are occupied. The next step is to shape some sightseeing plans.
Kansas City, MO -- Booked my flight from San Francisco and confirmed with d. and j. sleeping arrangements.
Dublin, Ireland -- Booked living arrangements for the nine days that I'll be there. The first night will be at a new hostel near Parnell Street. In June, I'll stay at University College Dublin -- VERY exciting!
Burgenland, Austria -- Still need to confirm with Diana, contact Maria, contact Sonja, and contact former schools teachers.
Trieste, Italy -- No progress, but have plans to meet with Jennifer and Fabio to discuss possibilities.
Bloomsday -- Need to check out the James Joyce Cultural Centre's schedule. Need to contact Monique from France.
Lancaster, PA -- need to decide whether I'll take the train or a plane.
Enough procrastinating. Back to the fun of interview write-ups.
