Ear me cream~

Well, well, well...

Tomorrow marks the Mid Autumn Festival of the year and suddenly someone and his girlfriend are in the mood for some champagne mooncakes.

Let us talk about these famous mooncakes (refered to as mcs later)  from Szechuan Court that are so sought after by Singaporeans.

It was in the morning and Mum took a call from Raffles the Plaza mooncake hotline looking for my dear bro, as Mum doesn't speak Englando, I was forced to take the call.

Bad news it was, in the morning when I am still dreamily happy about my breakfast as Bing went out to work. The guy over the line told me that they were not taking any more orders and had called to reject my dear baby brother's order. I was confused as the guy only insisted on not taking his order and thus demanded an explanation in a you-have-disturbed-my-morning-ritual tone, I later learnt that they stopped taking orders since last week and my baby brother faxed over the order only late last night and they only got it this morning when they started work. (-___-")

I had no choice but to break the news to my brother, telling him about all the details about the kitchen stopped making mooncakes. He told me that they were at Tampines yesterday and they couldn't get any mcs as the branch there is already out of stock. Further shock about no more orders. Being the nice, idle and kpo sister that I have always been, I offered to find the mooncakes for him. He told me that we can only buy the mcs at their main branch, which is at RAFFLES PLACE!?!? (I realise then my brother is not too familiar with Singapore) and after some browsing online, I found out that it's at City Hall. (-_____-")

I called the number they provided online and found it to be linked to the hotel on the 5th storey. The lady told me that every year there is a sell out and people do queue to buy these mcs. The restaurant opens only at noon and the lady has no way of telling whether there is a queue forming as it's located on the 3rd floor. She hastily gave me the mc hotline and I proceeded to ask stupid questions to the hotline guy. I recognised the guy's voice as the one who called me earlier; impatient, unhelpful and very irritated. I queried if the mcs will be sold out fast? Or is there a queue forming yet? The guy seemed to be only interested to tell me that the kitchen is not taking any more orders and we can only buy direct over the counter and told me curtly that they start selling at eleven and there is no guarantee to anything plus the fact that some of the flavours are already sold out. (-___________-")

With so much info, I was afraid that I will run into a raging crowd or reach there only to find nothing left.

But having a mc adventure once a year is fun. I prepped up and checked out all the routes and certainly made escape plans. Soon, I embarked on the Tour.

Just then, Mum came back and decided to join me. Wahaha! (means I don't have to pay for the mooncakes out of my own pocket)

We took a cab and reached there in a flash! First familiar person I saw was alfie, but he had his mufflers on and didn't notice me.

I went up to the 3rd floor and took some time locating the restaurant. (BRUSH UP ON YOUR SIGNS, ADMINS OF RAFFLES! I COULDN'T FIND THE FUCKING PLACE DUE TO LACK OF SIGNAGE!)

As we arrived, I saw a man coming out with a bag of mcs and started thinking... and Mum mentioned to me if THAT was the mc counter. I told her the restaurant's further in and we found it closed. Bad choice, because it was the mc counter. \('._.')/

We quickly ordered and Mum said that it's lucky that we came early, it just hit eleven. We took a box of each of the flavours left and wanted to pay, Mum said she will pay and took out...

$1,000 (-____________________________________________________-")

The counter guy told us that if we paid by card, there will be a 15% discount. I didn't have enough money left in my account (I don't know that the mcs are so ex) so poor little old me have to run down to the bank to get some change while Mum waited around.

I wanted to use the cash deposit machine initially, but there was a queue and I zoomed downstairs to get a teller. There were a few queues and the longest one happened to be the one I have to queue in. I turned back upstairs to the CDM and realised that besides $2 and $5 notes, they DO NOT accept $1,000 too.

ERGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH~~~~~

I had to go back down. The queue was even longer then. I waited till my turn (which was a long wait because some weirdos had some problem with their cheque and held up the line) and rushed back after depositing $200 in my account. Who doesn't want 15% discount? =p

I went back and there was a queue forming at the mc counter. There was only one person serving and the rest all stood around like mannequins. Whatever happened to GEMS? It took us some time and not before I told the guy that I was in a hurry then he proceeded with our payment. By card of course. And he missed out one of my orders. Never mind. The day had been worse.

As we were leaving, I saw Vik's sister on her way to see the chiropractor(?) but she had her ears covered too...

So here we arrive home with 5 boxes of mcs. Since I have yoga lessons tonight, I decided to eat mcs for my lunch and snack. I don't really dig snowskins. But since they are so expensive and smelled really good, I ate the snowskins. So far I only like the one with the pink skin. I think I better eat plain old cheap mcs like someone next time round.

And I miss him. *whiff*

Addition: Mum was saying that this year she bought the most expensive mcs ever and GP and GM are going to enjoy good mc offerings this year. And not forgetting to mention that Dad thought that 3 mooncakes for $13.50 was expensive... =X
