The Clex in "Lucy"

Watching SV last night, and seeing Lucy Lane again, I couldn't help remember that ep, "Lucy," from S4. And how Lex and Clark weirdly seemed like best friends in that Talon scene that had them bantering back & forth while watching Lois try to wait tables. And how Lex tried to help her (and got hurt doing it!) and how Lucy skipped town with his $50,000, and how he wound up telling Clark he was closer to him than to any blood brother.

At the time I just thought it was a bit strange, as Clark and Lex hadn't acted like friends for quite some time, considering that Lex made a special effort in "Devoted" to mend things between them. Now, looking back, "Lucy" was a weird little oasis in the middle of S4, before the relationship went irrevocably bad at the close of that season.

The show always was guilty of non sequiturs, and of being wishy-washy with that relationship--they wanted to rush the "Rift," but still needed Lex to provide money and connections so Clark could save people and get things done. With the result that Clark and friends wound up looking pretty bad. In that ep, Lex had helped Lois's sister and seemed to comfort her when Lucy ran off, so I was surprised and disappointed when Lois started bad mouthing him, even while working in his coffee shop. Pffft.

Since Lucy Lane is now living with her dad and there was absolutely no mention of any of the events of "Lucy," do you suppose General Lane saw to it that Lex was paid back his money?

...

No, I didn't think so.
