Another very awesome thing about this quite unexpected comeback of western comics fandom I only noticed during a ponderous walk to get back the cellphone of my silly brother from his car last night is that, whatever rumour/fact/gossip/bit of info about characters, stories and such, with little research I can go directly at the source and check it out for myself.
It can seems a small thing but the revelation left me all ... wooooah....! :DDDD
..oh well, there might be room for double interpretation as well, but that would be completely different from the japanese productions fandoms I've been in.
Don't get me the wrong way, I'm gratefull that for the fact that in said fandoms (Gundam00 and Code mostly) exists a community of people in wich some folks with knowledge of eastern languages are willing to share and translate for all of us, but no matter how hard they try, that of language it's a thick filter, that unavoidably would let some things outside - things the fans might overlook because, hey, they just don't care and they are entitled to do not - and some others might be flashed out more because of the fandom reception while they might not have been such a big deal in the original context, a context that I'm not able to go double-check.
To make it clearer with an example, let's suppose there's a Gundam novel in wich there are some funny anedoctes about Andrei's college life, and a whole paragraph in wich Shirin deals with her budding love for Klaus. I'd love to read the full transaltion for that, but given the little popularity of said characters, there's a quite huge probability bloggers, translators and such would never bother to even mention that.
In the same novel, Tieria has a dream about Neil. Be sure you'll quickly have the litteral translation for it, because the fanbase is huge and they'll surely dig that and talk a lot about that, giving the paragraph a relevance that maybe was not that huge in the original context.
LOL, I'm actually fearing I'll sound offensive to anyone that has ever did a fan-translation, and therefore I want to apologize once more. I'm not saying that you all are huge dishonest fanbrats (even if some might be), and I thank you all for all the work you do for free, I'm just saying that for once is relieving to have a fandom where you can have direct access to everything it has to offer in first person, and not have to rely on second-hand and frammentary infos coming from a language where there are five different words to say the same thing and echa one has ten different shades of meaning that might be one thing but maybe a little hint of the contrary I know no shit about... ^^; (yes, japanese language, I am looking at you...)
End of the brainfart. Live long and prosper, guyz, I'm leaving for the weekend!
(On a side note, it's nearly the anniversary of the epic Code finale weeks, I'm starting to feel slightly nostalgic... ^^;;)
