Sommersturm

Sommersturm (Summer Storm, Tormenta de Verano)
Is probably the funniest, gayest and most tender movie I have seen since Waterboys. It has some scenes flavoured of Get Real, and some comforting side-love in the lines of Maurice (wonderful curly-haired boy included), but the main story of the self-discovery and the crush on the best friend (aside from the joint masturbation as an evening activity with a friend) reminds me of the Spanish Krampack, only Sommersturm has MORE characters, and much funnier situations to compensate the natural doses of angst. When I bought it in Spain last month, I didn't have a clue what it was about, but was still basking in the aftermath of Brokeback Mountain, and wanted to try more of the genre. Not only did it not disappoint me, but it was also far better than I could have ever expected. It made me laugh, giggle like an idiot, go awwww, melt inside to the point of shaking and, at times, feel sad and remember things I wanted to forget. And to top it all, the scenery is beautiful and the soundtrack is superb.

Tobi and Achim have been best mates for years. As cox and oarsman, they have lead their rowing club to win several rowing cups in the past and are now looking forward to win a big regatta in the countryside of Germany. But this trip isn't your usual summer camp experience and problems soon arise. As Achim's relationship with his girlfriend Sandra, who's also on the team, grows more and more serious, Tobi starts to realize that his feelings for Achim run much deeper than he'swilling to admit to himself.[..] As the tension grows, Tobi, Achim and the others head towards a confrontation as fierce and liberating as the summer storm that's gathering over the lake. And Tobi realizes he has to start facing somefacts about himself he didn't dare to face before.

Here [...] introduce the fact that the guys were looking forward to camping next to the famous Berlin team of liberal, exuberating girls, but they couldn't make it, so in exchange they get the Queerschlag (Queer-Oar, el mari-remo en los subtítulos en español) team from Berlin, full of handsome, muscular guys who don't hesitate in bravely running away if they come across a cow while training. With the only alternative of a strict, female, all-catholic team that sings church songs by the fire, to compensate.

The characters are either gentle or funny or both things; the girls are nice, intelligent and open-minded, but also firm and strong; the boys are so very handsome, gorgeous at times, and I must officially declare my fullest admiration to one of them, gay, of course. Leo looks like certain Hufflepuff, I wish a fusion between Patrick Swayze and Sean Astin (see below, on the left). Combined, he could be Samwise Swayze (try to say that with your mouth full of bread), and looks at Tobi with the same eyes Sam looks Frodo. He is the responsible for one of the sweetest moments in the story of gay love and cinema in general, a scene that seems to have been taken out from the best of fanfics to suit all a slash fan fancies to see. Am not saying more. And then there is a kiss, by other characters, which left me so inebriated that I couldn't concentrate at work the next day. Needless to say, I have been rewatching my favorite scenes day in and day out since I first watched it last week.

Slash lovers, you CANNOT possibly miss this movie!
What a jewel from the German cinema!

Gente de España, la compré en la FNAC por 11 euros. Y de verdad que merece la pena *___* Yo me arriesgué y gané. Much love.
El doblaje español es bastante bueno, pero si sabéis algo de alemán, podéis divertiros viendo el original y comprobando cuánto se han inventado dónde al traducir.
