Japan

We found out earlier today that all of our friends who live in Japan are ok, though they all had hairy moments. Seeing the pictures of the devastation there is depressing, especially in view of a possible nuclear disaster in the offing. Hopefully they'll get things cooled down at the various reactors. The Fukushima situation is not only the most critical, but in 2007 it was damaged in a similar situation (off-coast earthquake). I'd thought it sounded familiar. The environmental damage, let alone the problems with any kind of life, from a nuclear disaster like this would be nothing short of catastrophic.

They say that supposedly the sections of the Ring of Fire don't affect each other, but I really have to wonder if the New Zealand's catastrophe set off this one. But then, I'm not a geologist, so I can't say. Should ask the next-to-oldest sibling who is a geologist.

Hope that they get back on their feet soon. They're already assembling response teams in our area.
