I figured I would shock some people and update with more than a sentence or two. :)
Layne's birthday was fun. While it was far from my ideal way of celebrating, I just enjoyed reflecting upon the last year. I would have liked to celebrate with Dylan's family, but we have to wait till next week after the holiday. Dylan's mom is a florist and Valentines week is a non stop thing for her. We spent most of the day at my Fathers house with him and his wife, my brothers celebrating the pups first year marker. Then in the the late evening we went back to my Moms and ate and had some cake. I enjoyed the time at my Dads, but as usual any gathering involving my Mother turns into what should be an AA meeting, or intervention.
Oh, I have some pics, but I need to find the cable so I can get them off the camera.
Layne had a slight fever the evening of his birthday, but nothing that really seemed to affect him much. It was gone all day yesterday until after I left
kat_killah's house (Her little Alex is too cute). By the time we got to Dylan's house he was quite warm. He was unusually fussy, but no signs of sickness to be seen. After a little interaction he seemed to mellow out and the temp subsided a little. We decided to take a chance and ran out to Quiznos real quick for dinner before he had to get to bed. His attitude got sour again while we were there, but his temp wasn't horrible. By the time we got home he was on fire and I started to get really scared. He had been warm before, but not what I would call hot. First thermometer reading was 102, hoping it might be wrong we tried another, 103. (Which was the cue for me to panic) At that point I freaked out and stripped him down and stuck him in a mild bath. Almost instantly after being stripped and put in the water his mood changed completely again and he was happy as could be. We managed to get his temp down to 99/100 before we put him to bed. I couldn't stop checking on him all night, he really had me worried. Today he has had a very low grade fever off and on, but nothing too drastic. I'm trying to hold off before I freak out and run to a doctor for no reason. I've been lucky so far and he has never had a cough/cold/sneeze/temp for more than a couple hours before.
I really don't know what caused the initial temperature, but I know I probably made the situation alot worse by having him overdressed. I'm enept to cold temperatures from being raised in Alaska and tend to over compensate his clothing because I am not really sure of what is appropriate. I tend to wear jeans, t-shirt and a light weight hoodie all winter long because the cold doesnt bother me much.
P.S. to
kat_killah: I am really sorry I brought a feverish kid around your newborn! I didn't know he was a ticking fever time bomb or I would have waited to visit you guys. My many many apologies.
