A happy thought on Barack Obama's presidency

Jan 19, 2009 18:41

There are signs that the fierce antipathy toward America in the hearts and minds of US journalists worldwide might just be easing.

Why, the New York Times is even suggesting that displaying the American flag is about to become acceptable again.Washington is suddenly hip again, infused with the heady double-barreled combination of a new crowd of ( Read more... )

"It is my sincere hope that Barack Obama succeeds in making the United States acceptable to US media again. And that this notion sticks around longer than he will. It would be a good thing for the country, and for the world."

WELL SAID!

I could not imagine a more positive outcome from this election than getting American Citizens proud of their nation once again en mass.

But the media has a loooooong way to go before they earn my trust - even if they rally everyone up - it will be in their scopes of left winged agendas.

Your concerns are well-taken. We'll see how it goes -- though I was disappointed at the picture in Melvin_Udall's link below.

Hmmm ... I had no idea people were printing flags like that - it is very disturbing.

The long held animosity by many in the black community against whom they see as "oppressors" in this country has - as far as I'm concerned - been quashed by this presidential victory. Ideally, once Obama has been in office for a length of time and people realize that their need for repudiation is not going to be satisfied in the way they would like, they will either regress back into victim mode or they will realize that life's struggles in America do not respect race and that America really is the most balanced nation on the planet when it comes to opportunity and the freedom to pursue ones dreams.

Personally, I can't wait for the day when we finally bring an end to affirmative action - especially in California where white people are now the minority.

The problem is they aren't cheering the nation. They are cheering the nation so long as the right kind of person is in charge.

Yes, it'll be nice to see even the pretense, though.

Let's not get lulled into forgetting what it is.

Ouch. I had not seen that.

Are those official "flags"?

I am hoping very much they are not. Right now Obama's face is getting put on everything so it's likely they aren't.

I posted that just to emphasize the point. These people support the Democrat and/or "magic negro". That it happens to appear as something resembling patriotism is a coincidence. The moment the GOP is at the helm their "patriotism" will die an instant death.

I do wish I were wrong.

I like to tell people we finally elected our first half-white president. :-)

In my eyes, the MSM is beyond any kind of redemption. I hope they choke to death on their own self-righteous indignity when those for whom they pimped tell them---in no uncertain terms---what they can...and cannot...report.

That's already happening. I was listening to a White House reporter who noted that Obama picked the reporters and questions in advance, and rarely deviated from this practice. She described it as almost a relief, since she and the other reporters now no longer have to tire their arms out by keeping their hands raised.

The show host to whom she was relating this was only very mildly concerned -- and rationalized it all away.

Sad state of affairs. Those people are not reporters; they're political mouthpieces pimping for Big Brother.

More and more of my generation of (retired) newsmen and women are glad to be out of that filth, and are horribly ashamed of the cesspool a once-honorable profession degenerated into.

Do you recall where and when you heard that?

I pretty much agree with you here, but I'm still a bit disturbed by some people I've heard who've said things like "for the first time in a long time I'm proud to be an American". I noticed this reaction from some people right after Obama won the election. It just bugs me.

I completely agree -- and in fact I echoed that in my reference to "professional life" above. More and more journalists have now voiced how unhappy they've been in the past eight years with a Republican in charge. Some have simply gone to work directly for the Obama administration, whereas as journalists they worked for him only indirectly.

Yes, it's even more disturbing that so-called journalists would act this way.

I would like to fastforward the whole
obama administration(s) but life does not
allow that, we have what we have.
the good thing is that most of the
'liberal agenda' and in any case most of
it that is likely to be enacted doesnt amount
to much and is survivable I expect.
