I swear I'm going to get to writing my big giant post about college soon. (I've taken pictures of my dorm/study for you to see)
I may even have to divide it into like 3 different posts but I'll get there eventually.
So one of my classes I'm taking is 19th century European history, although we have not really gotten to the learning part yet I'm super excited for it.
One of the reason's is because it's a Gordon rule class which means I have to write 3000 words in that class, now most people would complain about that but I get to write 3000 words about History! Boy I can write so much more than that.
Here are my prompts:
"Essay # 1- Due Monday, October 4.
In the first section of this course, we have discussed two major elements of the “Age of Revolutions” (c. 1750-1850)- the Industrial Revolution and the French Revolution. In this essay, I want you to answer the following question- Which of these revolutions had a greater impact on the history of Europe between 1750 and 1850? It is up to you to choose the criteria you will use to evaluate the significance of these revolutions, but keep in mind that in order to prove that one revolution was more significant, you also need to prove why the other revolution was less significant. Therefore, the best essays will incorporate discussion of both revolutions.
Essay # 2- Due Monday, November 1.
In the second section of this course, we have discussed the history of 19th century Europe in three general regions- Western Europe, Mediterranean Europe, and Eastern Europe. In this essay, I want you to compare and contrast the history of two of these regions in the 19th century. You are free to focus on one or more country or area in these regions, although keep in mind that you must explain why you consider a particular country or area to be part of a particular region. You are also free to choose the subject or subjects that you want to compare and contrast (i.e.- society, economy, culture, politics, ect…)."
Now for the second one I know for one of the countries I want to do is the nationalist movement in Finland, both the Fennoman and Svecoman movements, because I want to dicuss how nationalism can have more than one faction in a country, but I don't know what to compare that with?
(Norway perhaps with the Norwegian nationalist movement and Scandinavism...but that may be not considered a different enough region.
Kind of want to compare Finland's nationalist movement with Poland's, as well, because both were under Russia's control at the time but they were treated wildly differently which affected their respected movements...but again maybe too similiar. Guess who's writing an email to her Professor?)
Any who to my point so I can go online and see what books they have online so I just typed in 19th century Finland history and this baby came up:
Social structure and demographic development in a southern Finnish parish (Lohja) 1810-50
by Yrjö KaukiainenI think I love college...
(I kind of want to run to the 24 hour library now to get it...but it's 1 over here and I have classes tomorrow)
(Plus I don't think people are wildly into Nordic history as I am down here)
