So these pictures were taken back in like March I think it was an I'm now just putting them up here. Yes, I'm that lazy.
No but really I wanted to have a day were my photography major friend took a pictures of some of the costumes I've made. We were going to do all of them but my friend is a sticklier about what time of the day is best in the sunlight. The pictures where I'm in the the 1918 dress were taken at like noon and my friend got all like we need to lounge around until 4 because I'm not likeing this sunlight. So we then traveled around Jacksonville till the light was for my photographer friend's likeing, and by the time we got to the 1770's promade dress we could care les about my hair and being somewhat historically accurate. (I wish now we could have been more historically accurate) It was loads of fun though!
(We sang so much ABBA my throat started to hurt...Yes, ABBA was on my straight friend that is a boy's ipod. I blame our arts school for that.)
Now a little about the dresses themselves.
The 1918 dress was actually made for a Anastasia Romanov costume since I wanted to commerate the 90th anniversary of the Romanov execution. Luckiely for me I was at the time the same age as Anastasia and that year they finally discovered the last two remains. (I'm such a Romanov nerd...)
I noticed most of the dresses Anastasia wore were tea dresses of the time and that white was the color of choice. The yellow lace detailing I have is a bit of a homage to the cartoon Anastasia where she wore that yellow dress.
(To the is day I'm dissappointed in that movie mainly because I wanted to see Felix Yussapov killing Rasputin. Seriously best drag queen in history. (He was a ' Killer Queen' LOL...I should shoot myself now) )
I had a bunch of research that was on my old computer I wish I could upload but it all got deleted, and I think I would bore you to death with my research boards. (seriosuly I fill those babies up, it is rediculous)
Now I used a crepe like material and anow I wish I hadn't because I really at that time wasn't experienced enough seamstress to use it.
(Actually I realize both dresses have a shit ton of flaws and I wish I could fix them badly...uhhh must improve. MUST GET BETTER)
Crepe is a bitch, seriosouly it like the slip and slide fabric of death. You should have a serger or a really fantastic zig zag stich on your sewing machine.
Okay the other dress is a 1770's promade dress. This dress was made for a districtal competition for costume construction. I had to make a costume within a $100 budget from a list of plays. I chose She Stoops to Conquer a lovely comedy of manners that was written in the 1770's. It tells a story of a girl Kate who is of wealthy background and is about to meet a suitor named Marlow, Marlow has a tad bit of a problem he can't flirt/talk to rich girls but he loves talking to poor girls. Now Kate herself is somewhat of a fashionista (I made her fashionista dress because I wanted to something pretty) but her father is an old soul and dresses her in clothing of the old days. So after hearing about Marlow's fear she dresses in in the clothing her father likes (makeing her look poor) and pull a prank to think that Marlow isn't yet at Kate's house (well her father's but...) but at an inn and shanaigans and subplots are everywhere, and LOLZ ensue.
(sorry I fail at description)
Anywho I wanted her to be really rich looking because she in this costume scares Marlow. The fabric though is a polyester (and is hot as fudge) and has an almost, "glowng," quality to it. I chose steel blue and gold because steel blue is usually a color of strength and stability, while gold is to show wealth and it is realate to the color yellow which is the color of feminism. I find a Kate a very strong women so I though the color choices make sense....
Well I could keep on ranting but I haven't even got to the pictures yet.
Oh just to let you know on that competition I got a superior, which is the highest award you can get.
(though I thought I deserved a lower score. I think I smoozed the judge because we were both reenactors and I talked to her for an hour afterwards.)
(Also I did costume design on that competition. Once I figure out how my scanner works I'll put them up. I got a superior on that as well)
Now for what you really want to see.
Áll of these are taken at the Walter Jones Historical Park which by the way is like my favourite place in Jacksonville. So mush history in such a beautiful setting.
See I can be somewhat sexy...see.
Brandon (my photographer friend) Looks takeing pictures of me getting ready because he thinks it looks more natrual. I think it looks like I have gas
Oh let me run around on the sidewalk
904 represent...Again goofing off
Derp....(I love my shoes btw way)
Personally my favourite picture even though I don't know what my hair is doing at this point.
I'm now going to stare blankly into the sky symbolizing hope
hmmm...Is that a plane? What even is a plane?
Say what now?
This picture annoys the hell out of me because I wanted to bring my over petticoat to cover my roped petticot but Brandon has a small car. But you can see why I'm ticked
ahh the the detailing in the back which I love
Now some pictures of that dress taken during Halloween...
When I my hair was a tad bit more accurate. (Headphones are not though) The red neck band is a homage to the supposed
Bals des victimes in France. (though the other red neck thing is my school id...)
Finally last but not lest
I don't even know... Well they say sharks like shiny things...
BTW guys is you have an critique or commments please put them. I definatly want to become a better seamstress so I need all the advice I can have.
