This is so. so. cute and adorable and sweet and heartbreaking and poor Yuna. And it makes me think of Goodnight Moon, for extra childhood angst.

sora's heart is warm and dark and safe and real, everything that roxas could possibly need but he's terrified. he knows sora can feel it, knows that he's the cause of the worried frown that flits across his face but roxas can't help it. he's still so scared of so many things

his gift is knowing.

eons before it happens, before it even thinks about happening, he knows when his goddess will return. he knows the exact moment they will reunite, that her markings will remind him painfully of the face he used to know (how strange, how cruel, that he can remember so vividly a feeling he hasn't felt yet). he knows that she will survive, that she'll defeat yami and spread light and warmth to the world once more.

but he can't say that to her. his gift is knowing, not doing.

so he'll watch over her, sometimes stop to say hello but mostly he'll just watch her from afar. it's to keep her to her mission, he tells himself, but it seems as though his eyes are starved of her. (when he first met her, he had thought it prudent to always look away from a god, for fear of offense or blindness; this amused her for a few days, but she grew cross and told him to stop being a fool and look at her.) he cannot interfere now--he can only hope to guide her. just to watch

i haven't seen the movie yet, but i am completely and utterly spoilered, and you hit every little nerve in me. because that's what fear of the dark is. it's knowing that you can't be prepared, no matter what, because you don't know what's out there, and what you can't see, you can't face.
